What makes a presentation interesting? vs.

Capture attention to make key points memorable Your audience will learn something because of: Your skill as a presenter Your presentation + What qualities of a presentation help you to remember key points?

Slides should follow along logically to tell a story A presentation is a narrative, with a beginning, a middle, and an end. Information should be logically presented so that the audience is led to new understanding.

Slides are a visual medium. Use images! We remember images more than text or spoken words. Chocolate ice cream cone Selfie Pigeon What do you notice most: the pictures or the text?

In other words, keep text to a minimum Bullet points can be a great way to summarize. Used sparingly, bullets can help make key points. If you use too many, your audience will not be listening to you. They will be reading your bullets. Break up bullet points into separate slides. Don’t be afraid of space on a slide. Large blocks of text like this are not appropriate on a slide. This is often the information you should be saying, not writing. Use the notes section of the presentation to remember what you want to say. Use the slide to illustrate what you’re saying with a graphic.

Keep fonts simple, big, and dark This is a serif font. It’s harder to read on a slide. This is a sans serif font. It is easy to read on a slide.

Light backgrounds and dark text are usually best Light-colored backgrounds are best most of the time, and dark-colored text. Sometimes you can make a point by making a change, like light-colored text on a dark background. Bigger is better! Everyone can see it.

End your presentation with a summary

You are the most important part of your presentation!

What are your takeaways? Name three things you learned about creating effective, interesting presentations that will prevent your audience’s notes from looking like this:
