Presentation transcript:

Welcome Welcome to the Precision Exams presentation. We are so excited to be here to talk with you about how PE can assist you with CTE assessments and certifications – and also bring value to students, teachers and administrators. I am the Regional Director for Illinois and have the pleasure of working with most of the career centers in the state. In addition, I work with CPS and Valley View SD and many other high schools across the state supporting their CTE efforts. This is Adam Sanchez, our National Director. A little later in the presentation, I am going to have him speak about IRCs, but for now, I am going to tell you a little more about PE and who we are… Bringing value to CTE students, teachers and administrators through assessments, reporting and certifications.

New York Testing CTE Program Technical Assessments (includes practical evaluation) 4+1 Approved Course level / benchmark assessments SLO / APPR (pre/post) stackable credentials 21st Century Skills Certificates to show employability Easy to use Teachers proctor written assessment Industry does NOT have to proctor practical evaluation Exams designed for a 50 minute class period 100% online Consistent testing across BOCES, schools and districts

Bridging the Gap in CTE Assessment Certification Testing Relationship with the student Very little feedback/value to the teacher Standardized Assessment Testing Relationship with the organization Very little value to the student Problem with each type of assessment they either benefit the student OR the organization. Student receives cert, but no data to help inform instruction. OR School gets data, but student is not invested because it is for data purposes only, so students don’t engage or care about exam and data comes well after time that it could benefit that student. Precision Exams is the first to truly provide the benefits of an IRC, TSA, and consistent, accurate, and fair measurements for teachers and administrators to measure student growth and improve instruction

Value to Students and Industry Certificates Value to Students and Industry

Student Value: Career Skills Certificate Motivate and empower Quantify education and experience Validate skills attained Certificate for job interviews and resumes Recognition on college applications We know the boxes that need to be checked for teachers and administrators, but without a value to the student, testing really is a waste of time. All of our exams result in a certificate for students. Teacher who successfully position an exam as an opportunity to earn a certificate that will help students in the futures, will see students motivated and encouraged to earn the certificate.

Skill Standards Listed on Certificate So with employers looking for knowledge and skills, we wanted to find a way to help students articulate their knowledge and skills… You work with HS students – ask them what classes – list off, ask what they learned – deer in the headlights… it is difficult to articulate what they learned. We provide a summary of what they learned – providing content for resumes, college applications and talking points for interviews.

Your CTE Student’s NEW Resume Elena Woznak East High School Graduate – 2014 Certifications Earned Food & Nutrition I Apply the skills of kitchen equipment and management. Identify types, use and care of selected kitchen equipment. Select appropriate equipment for specific product preparation. Demonstrate the proper use and care of equipment. Employ standard safety procedures when using equipment. Accounting I Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental accounting equation. Understand the accounting equation: assets = liabilities + owner’s equity Explain why the accounting equation must be in balance. Manipulate the accounting equation to find the missing variable. Classify accounts as assets, liabilities, or owner’s equity. Business Communication I Understand need to measure performance against established expectations (e.g. Performance gaps, organization goals). Analyze and understand the importance of financial information. Know basic financial terms (e.g. Assets, liabilities, owner’s equity, revenue, expenses). Projects Completed Created and help manage a school store Kept the general ledger for the store and created weekly financial statements Prepared and sold baked goods at a profit of 800% Compare to my HS resume…

Knowledge Standards

Performance Standards

Alignment to standards “Precision Exams have become our “go-to” tests. The exams appealed to us because they are specific to our teachers courses. We really like the way our courses align the to the knowledge standards. We can trust the standards.” - Tammi Conn, Valley View SD

PRECISION EXAMS RECRUITS INDUSTRY PARTNERS THROUGH THE VALUE OF STANDARDS Engagement of local to international companies helps to solidify the value of education that successfully supports student, industry, and educator needs and goals. Brock: When utilizing that first step of endorsing the existing certification program, employers are quick to engage and provide input and support.  Once they learn the language of industry recognized standards, and how to recognize students who have certified in the appropriate knowledge and skill, it is amazing how business leaders catch the vision of how this can positively impact their talent shortages with their involvement. These steps can be utilized in your areas by sharing the standards of your courses, the BPA competitions, and the certifications your students earn to solicit that employer awareness of just how prepared your students are for the workforce.

No software, downloads or updates. No IT department. I just finished testing my class - it went great!  There were no lags or hang ups anywhere…and the feedback from the instructors and students was very positive.   The instructors and 2nd year students remember what this process was like from last year, and they just couldn't believe how much better testing with Precision Exams was.
