How do we generate the results? Main categories entirely from student reviews Questions cover 12 principle areas: Accommodation, City Life, Clubs and Societies, Course and Lecturers, Giving Back, Job Prospects, Student Support, Students’ Union, Facilities, International, Postgraduate and Overall Satisfaction Three new categories: FE College & Independent Providers (online only) + Best Prospective Student Engagement (submission judged by Student Advisory Board) A combination of physical and electronic collected reviews Results are both quantitative (scores) and qualitative (free text) Total reviews for 2017/18 collected in excess of 36,400 Threshold for publication is 150 per university, 200 for larger universities (we have 800+ for a number of universities). 30 reviews for the FE and IHE categories. Now in its fifth year – starting to build a longitudinal picture

Early insight into NSS performance? Strong correlation between our Overall Satisfaction score and the Question 22 results from the National Student Survey In 2017: 5 of the universities featured in the top 10 of the WUSCAs also then featured in the top 10 for overall satisfaction in the 2017 NSS: Harper Adams University Loughborough University Aberystwyth University Leeds College of Art Bangor University With a strong correlation on actual score (out of 5) and also rank order

Category results Category 2018 Score (/5) 2017 Overall 4.01 4.07 Courses & Lecturers 3.88 3.97 Uni Facilities 3.98 3.96 City Life 3.89 3.95 Job Prospects Student Support 3.86 3.87 Club & Societies 3.77 3.83 Accommodation 3.70 3.76 Students’ Union 3.69 Giving Back 3.54 3.58

Other categories Category 2018 Score (/5) 2017 Postgraduate 4.13 smaller samples Category 2018 Score (/5) 2017 Postgraduate 4.13 International 4.17 FE College 4.11 N/A Independent Providers 4.25

What’s getting better? Broadly the same: Uni Facilities, Student Support, City Life Falling: Overall, Accommodation, More erratic: Clubs & Socs, Job Prospects Improving: Students’ Union

What are they saying? Overall “ Coming to University to study Media and Communications has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. The degree has played a major role in my life so far, and has given me an identity too. I've had a great and fulfilling experience! I really do love it! It’s such a warm welcoming community and makes me feel like I really belong here and it’s my home, as well as my ideal study space. Can’t beat it. “

“ “ “ “ “ What are they saying? Accommodation Splendid, good price and very close to uni. Modern in a friendly neighbourhood. “ Halls was the best year of my life. “ Accommodation itself is nice. The halls are too cliquey and competitive and if you aren’t a ‘popular’ you have an awful time “ Basic and old, I live 20 minutes walk away from University and town/shops and up a massive hill which is a pain when carrying shopping back. All other uni accommodation is very close to uni so my accommodation is far from my friends. I wish I lived somewhere else

“ “ “ “ What are they saying? Uni Facilities Lots of new buildings going up all the time “ Fantastic, new gender neutral toilets are very good The facilities provided were up to my expectations for a modern university with good interaction spaces. “ The library is awful. Too small so always too busy to get a seat, the toilets are disgusting. There is a trading room at the uni which is good but there’s only the one room for loads of courses that need it and it’s always booked up so I can’t access it.

“ “ “ “ What can be improved? Job Prospects They don't really do much in terms of helping find part time jobs atm. “ There could be more company involvement in the actual course beside the Careers support “ More applicable tasks in the course “ What can you do with Philosophy?

“ “ “ What can be improved? Clubs and Societies Clubs and Societies Excellent variety, but is tricky for people who don't live close to the city. “ They sound awesome but I'm not involved in one yet. “ I don't understand why it is really useful to join Clubs and Societies
