TEXT MESSAGING Text messaging use is posed to grow quickly and dramatically It can be used for a variety if business purposes Like mobile phones, email and the web can be used to send text messages Business use it for promotional purpose GPS location, Notify of sales, special events nearby

TEXT MESSAGING Shortcuts are accepted if they help meet the objectives and are clear BTW for By The Way Nite for Night Text messages should convey ideas completely with minimal need of response User should avoid them if they interfere with clarity

EMAIL Recent growth of email has been phenomenal Email has emerged as a mainstream form of business communication Internal email forms a significant part of the communication used to coordinate the work in small and large businesses alike Save time Facilitates fast decision Is cheap compare to other methods And provides a written record It is not confidential Doesn’t show emotion May be ignored or delayed

EMAIL Beginning Message Organizing the Contents Beginning with the recipient name or greeting Identify yourself if necessary Organizing the Contents Organizes short messages by presenting information in descending order of importance Longer message usually follow more complex patterns

EMAIL Writing The Message Email messages range from highly informal to formal Casual Casual language uses slang, colloquialisms ( wanna, gonna), contraction, short sentences Use casual languages when writing to friends Informal Informal language resembles proper conversation Formal Formal language keeps a distance between writer and reader

EMAIL Writing The Message: General consideration Conciseness Clarity Cut nonessentials and write in brief Minimize references to references to previous communication Clarity Use the techniques of clear writing Etiquette Be courteous - gentle Correctness Write correctly Correctness is a part of message

EMAIL Closing the Message Using Emphasis Devices End with your name perhaps a closing statement Using Emphasis Devices Email has limited use of emphasis devices. Using Initials Cautiously- Save time but use cautiously ASAP BTW FAQ FYI LOL TIA TTFN

EMAIL Avoiding Inappropriate use of Email Do not use email when- The message is long, complicated or requires negotiation Question of information need clarification and discussion The information is confidential, sensitive, requires security or could be misinterpreted Emotionally touch and require tone of voice Remember email can make conflict worse

Traditional Letters Letters are the oldest form The early civilizations used them We still use them From the early days we stills use letter for business

Memorandums Memos are internal letters. Email is taking over their function Some memos may be classified as reports The memorandums begin directly – with the objective. Memorandums end with courteous words The specific information needed can be listed in logical order
