New datasets by regional typologies based on multi-dimensional tables Valeriya Angelova Eurostat Unit E4 WG Regional, urban and rural development statistics 17 and 18 October 2016, Luxembourg
Content 1. Overview of the regional typologies maintained by E4 for statistical purposes 2. The new production system based on multidimensional tables 3. Illustration of the results
Urban-rural typology Based on 2011 population grid and NUTS 2013
Metropolitan typology Based on 2011 population grid and NUTS 2013
Coastal typology Based on 2011 population grid and NUTS 2013
The new production system for data aggregated by typologies • Simple technical solution based on multidimensional tables that needs just specification of formulas, spatial integrity rules and validation rules; • NUTS 3 input tables are downloaded automatically, directly from Eurobase and the functions behind are executed. Then the already aggregated tables are sent back to Eurobase in the folder Regional statistics by typology.
Advantages of the new production system • The system is able to recognise whether data in the input tables is based on NUTS version 2010 or 2013 (control NUTS codes included in the algorithm) and uses the relevant integrity rules version; • The tables are updated automatically every day; • A flexible mechanism to provide new regional typology indicators based on available NUTS 3 figures.
The result – new datasets in Eurobase
24 completely new datasets!
