2018 PRE-SEASON MEETING AND INFORMATION Capo Valley Track and Field 2018 PRE-SEASON MEETING AND INFORMATION

Personal Information Make sure you have filled out your personal information on the google chromebook before you leave today. This is very important. https://goo.gl/forms/PqI1wYNfNzc1npu83

ATHLETIC CLEARANCE PACKET If you did not play a fall or winter sport. Then you must fill out you clearance packet online at: http://www.capoathletics.com/athleticclearance Must have a physical (take care of this ASAP!!) The online system will list you as cleared or not (You must be approved my Mr. Addison) If you came from another sport your parents must go back into the system and add you to track and field.

TRY OUTS-- December 3:00 pm. Check in at 3:00 pm will start at the lunch tables. We will check that you have a clearance packet completed and cleared online. Must have your paperwork cleared in the computer by Thursday December 1st. This means you must turn this in earlier than that in order for Mr. Addison to clear you. This includes athletes coming from other sports you must go back in and add track and field to your profile in order to participate. You do not need to refill out paperwork or get another physical to do a second sport this year.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT TRYOUTS Distance runners on Cross Country will have separate tryouts based on top times during their previous season. Long Jump and Triple Jump will have events that day ( Long Jump Only, No Triple) Throws will be Shot Put only (There will be 30 minutes practice before to learn how to properly throw) Hurdles- See Sprints (This is to prevent catastrophic injuries, hurdles take some practice) Sprints- May enter 100 m or 400m or both Poll Vault-Coaches will put you through a special tryout to see your abilities

PRACTICE SCHEDULE If you are in the 6th Period Class January will be 6th period only practice. February-May Monday 6th Period Study Hall All Practice: 3:10-5:00 PM Tuesday 6th Period 1:15-3:00 PM After School 3:10-5:00 PM Wednesday All Practice: 3:10-5:00 PM Thursday 6th Period 1:15-3:00 PM After School 3:10-5:00 PM Friday All Practice 3:00-4:00 PM

PRACTICE AND EVENT ATTENDANCE PRACTICE IS EVERY DAY AND EVERY DAY IS REQUIRED You do not have to be scheduled in the 6th Period Class, but you need to come to practice. Parents and athletes should schedule work and medical appointments around the schedule when possible. If you will not be at practice you must notify your head coach by email before the absence. Teachers may not require you to make up tests during practice, this is a class too. Event coaches are directed to hold athletes out of meets who miss practice prior to meets. If you have an unavoidable, emergency or preplanned conflict make sure you let your event and head coach know, don’t send messages with other athletes. There will be practices scheduled during the Spring Break at crucial peak of the season. If you are in town you are expected to attend. Must send coaches an email informing us of your vacation a head of time. Missing Practice shows non-commitment to your growth as an athlete and could result in removal from the team and 6th period class if applicable.

Weekend Commitments We do have several weekend events or invitationals. Not Every Weekend but a good amount. Not all will be invited, but if you are doing well at your event at your level you will be asked to come. A schedule will be provided to you many months in advance. We understand that many individuals participate in club sports, however we ask that you manage your schedule so that you can make it to weekend commits Invitationals cost the team money that cannot be refunded if people can’t show up we waste hundreds of dollars and you lose an opportunity to make top marks and get yourself noticed. Every athlete’s times and measurements get placed on online database which college coaches have access to. If you don’t think you not going to get recruited for track you never know who is looking

Leadership and Individual Goals This year we will have two event captains per gender that will be voted on by the athletes and approved by the coaches. Varsity athletes only (no frosh captains). Captains will be responsible for ensuring that individuals are committed to the program. Focus on leading by example and pushing others to work at a high level. Don’t take days off because they feel like it. They don’t let others take days off because they feel like it. Focus on team goals and development of all others on the team. You are someone the coach can go to when we need you to discuss and issue or help fix a problem Individual Goals When the season starts you will be asked to write down three individual goals you want to achieve. We will hold on to these goals and if you achieve them you will receive special recognition at the banquet. (Goals must be realistic, measurable and specific to you and your abilities).
