Part 2: Empowering People!

Empowering women & men to end their own hunger The heart of our work: Mindset Gender Vision Harmony Mobilization Leadership Organizations Governance Data for the People Self-reliance Gender-Focused, Community-Led Development The goal of our advocacy and our M&E is aligned with our programs - to empower women and men in rural communities to end their own hunger.

THP began developing this in Senegal in the early 1990s, and then spread to a total of 8 countries representing West, East and Southern Africa

Joining the conversation Edina Chikulo Microfinance Program Officer, Malawi J.S. Amoakohene Nat’l Program Officer Liinu Diaz Rämö Program Coordinator, Girl Child Platform, Sweden

The Girl Child Platform is a meeting point for all organizations and initiatives working to improve and strengthen young girls' position in society. Together we can make a greater difference and change in order to achieve a society free of oppression and discrimination. The Girl Child Platform aims to create a long-term and sustainable cooperation between all of these stakeholders, in order to raise issues of girls' rights on the Swedish political agenda. Girl Child Platform is a three year project funded by the Swedish Postcode Lottery and is run by the Hunger Project and Crossing Boarders.

Gatherings and meeting Go to conferences in order to raise girls’ rights Website

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD Raise awareness on International Day of the Girl Child Partnership with minister of gender equality important!

We’ve just launched a campaign called #tjejkunnig or #girlsmart which is based on the realization that it is often adults who have a voice in matters relating to young girls. We think it is important to acknowledge that only those who identify themselves as girls, can truly know what it means to be a girl today. Girl Smart will therefore help adults, the media and those who make the decisions on issues concerning girls, to listen to the girls' perspectives. A social media campaign because that’s where the youths are.

AGAINST SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND FOR CONSENT IN LAW AND PRACTICE AGAINST SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND FOR CONSENT IN LAW AND PRACTICE! A movement in which all people fit Being in all rooms To push forward policy decisions

Matsekope Epicenter: Rosemary, 24, comes to the epicenter of every month to learn more about how she can take care of their children. Today she has learned about how to fix food / infant formula. She has even begun to understand what responsibility it is to have a child. "Now I will think it through properly before I get another baby". At the Asantekrom epicenter I met several girls, but Abigail struck me the most. Abigail is 18 and lives in Asantekrom. Abigail is in high school. Wants to become a doctor to help people. She does not want to remain in the village and not be educated and not have a job. "It's harder to get education as a girl, the boys and the community do not think we are important"

Part 3: Provide What’s Missing

What It Means to Be a Strategic Organization Progress via entrepreneurial leaps Guided by “What’s Missing?” to enable humanity to take the next leap. Vision far exceeds resources. “Creative Tension” & “Emotional Tension” One response - lower the vision We hold our vision, draw energy from the creative tension, and tolerate discomfort long enough to pull reality up to our vision.

The Highest Leverage Role for The Hunger Project Build the large-scale partnerships and alliances to empower gender-focused community-led rural development everywhere it is needed.

Empowering people at Transformative Scale Lots of Advocates Lots of Empowerers Big Donors & Gov’ts Gender-Focused, Community-Led Development CLD
