Row 1: Understand and analyze context To receive a 6…“The report situates the student’s investigation of the complexities of a problem or issue in research that draws upon a wide variety of appropriate sources. It makes clear the significance to a larger context.” ---------- If you think you have done this, ask: Is the area of investigation focused and situated in my research? If yes but, you “may try to deal with too many aspects of the topic to address complexity” and/or you “may be over reliant on journalistic sources or lack academic /scholarly sources,” then you will receive a 4. Check out your title, subtitles, first paragraphs, and works cited page to evaluate where you stand.

Row 2: understand and analyze argument To receive a 6…“the report demonstrates an understanding of the reasoning and validity of the sources’ arguments. This can be evidenced in direct explanation or through purposeful use of the reasoning and conclusions.” ---------- If you think you have done this, ask: Does my report demonstrate an understanding of the reasoning and validity of arguments from the sources used? If yes but, there is limited explanation of the authors’ line of reasoning then you will receive a 4. Check out the end of your paragraphs and/or immediately following a citation as part of the commentary on a source. Row 3: Evaluate Sources and Evidence To receive a 6…“the report demonstrates evaluation of credibility of the sources and selection of relevant evidence from the sources. Both can be evidenced by direct explanation or through purposeful use.” ---------- If you think you have done this, ask: Is the evidence well-selected and well-used? If yes but, references to credibility or sources are more descriptive than analytical attributive phrases and/or there is attention to the evidence, but not the sources (you treat all evidence as equal, even when it is not) then you will receive a 4. Row 4: Understand and analyze perspective To receive a 6…“the report discusses a range of perspectives and draws explicit and relevant connections amoung those perspectives.” ---------- If you think you have done this, ask: Is there a range of perspectives in the report and are they clearly connect? If yes but, you make only general connections between the multiple perspectives**, then you will receive a 4. Row 5: Apply Conventions To receive a 3…“the report attributes and accurately cites the sources used. The bibliography accurately references sources using a consistent style.” ---------- If you think you have done this, ask: Is the citation/attribution acturate? If yes but, you are uneven in your citations, have unclear references, or are missing major elements of citations then you will receive a 2. Check out you works cited page and in-text citations.

Row 6: Apply Conventions To receive a 3…“the report communicates clearly to the reader (although may not be free of errors in grammar and style). The written style is consistently appropriate for an academic audience.” ---------- If you think you have done this, ask: Is the grammar and style appropriate for an academic audience?
