Bacteria and fungus bind to surfaces via hydrophobic interaction. The Sorbact®-method Bacteria and fungus bind to surfaces via hydrophobic interaction. Water molecules When two hydrophobic particles comes in direct contact the bind together with the binding force of the surrounding water molecules = Hydrophobic interaction First picture shows two hydrophobic (water repellent) particles surrounded by water molecules. When the particles come in direct contact with each other the water molecules bind together in a circle surrounding the particles holding them together (Hydrophobic interaction). The Sorbact hydrophobic fabric

What makes Sorbact® so special? Sorbact uses the same binding process that bacteria and fungus use to bind to surfaces, hydrophobic interaction. Sorbact applied directly on the wound surface. Pathogenic microorganisms bind to the Sorbact surface and become inactivated. With Sorbact we don’t add anything that kills the bacteria, we just use their natural method of binding to surfaces, hydrophobic interaction. Hydrophobic interaction occurs when two hydrophobic (water-repellent) particles bind to each other with the help of surrounding water molecules. Thus, bacteria and fungus bind to the Sorbact dressing, where they stop multiplying, and are removed from the wound surface when the dressing is changed. The bound microorganisms are removed when the dressing is changed.
