PCIP Preparation

PCIP Preparation Complete header with project number, issue and date. You will need to get your document controller to give you a document number 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation Depending on the complexity of the project you may require other functions i.e. S&SD, Construction or Engineering to assist you in reviewing the document. The document must be issued as a controlled document via a document transmittal so only include those who actually require it. Record the revision history of the document every time you make a change 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation Update the contents page 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation Give a brief description of the project , enough to set the scene. Identify how long will be allowed between appointment and the start of the construction phase. If the work is of a significant nature you will need to allow at least 21 day for the review of WPPs Identify the key dates and milestones. When do you intend to send any updates with new or additional information When setting goals try and make them more than simply achieving a target. Rather than AFR and No RIDDORS think Number of issues raised by workforce successfully closed out by Project Team. Considerate Constructors Scheme. CEEQUAL 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation Network Rail fulfils their CDM duties via the organisation rather than any one specific individual. You will need to complete the CDM matrix and add it to the appendices. In the main Neil Thompson (Regional Director) is the Clients Rep and the Route Delivery or Project Director as the CDMC Rep 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation If the design has already been completed include the information from the designers risk log. Describe the arrangements for managing any design changes and how these will be communicated with the original designer. If the project is design and build you need to set the parameters for the designer Safe by Design Red and Green Lists 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation You will need to check with the maintainer if there are any hazardous materials stored on site. Request the COSHH sheet for the material and include them in the appendices. Will planning consent be needed or are there any issues in the planning consent that need highlighting Will you need a section 61 notice Do you need any special licences for working close to badger sets , bat roosts etc. Provide information on line speed etc consult with the track engineer to get information on gradient and any low adhesion sites. This is important when the contractor will be using on track plant. 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation It is important when compiling this section that you identify the key hazards to the contactor and not merely include hazard directory extracts or other bulk information. Start with the most significant hazards first. Don’t include hazards which the contractor will be aware of i.e. a scaffolding contractor is well aware of the hazards associated with working at height . The most effective ways to identify hazards is to visit the site. 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation Provide details on access points from the hazard directory also visit site and take photographs. Include details on the environment surrounding the access point i.e. is it through a quite cul de sac or is it out in the countryside. This may influence how the contractor executes the work. Give details on any drawings that are available, this can be a link if the contactor has access to Project Wise , 4 Projects etc. Include buried services information in the appendices however include any significant items in section 4.3 i.e. High Pressure gas main located at mileage etc. 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

Good wide access suitable for HGV and trailer 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

Blind bend and tight turn into site Blind bend and tight turn into site. You would need traffic management for HGVs 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation Use the GSI Portal , Google maps etc to identify the location of temporary accommodation. Similarly include the same for storage areas etc. Consider ALO when acquiring land etc for site cabins or lay down areas. Consider how the work is to be carried out when you identify the land to be used. Will it be sufficient for locating cranes etc, building up components and dedicated pedestrian routes. When setting up Traffic Management system consider how they may impact on Level Crossings . 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation Enquire if the area is in a T&V Hot spot, if include the information If the project is in a station or depot you need to include any special fire or emergency arrangements they have . Speak to the station or depot manager for these. Include the relevant control numbers , these are available on connect. Information on structures can be obtain from the route asset manager additionally request the latest asset condition reports. 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation These sections are giving generic information to the contactor 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation The section gives generic information on our life saving rules IP-Central aim is to reduce the level of using lookout protection as a safe system of work. It is not prohibited but if the contactor wishes to use it then he needs to seek authorisation from the programme manager 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation In most stations or depots they have specific arrangement for induction and reviewing WPPs etc you will need to consult with them and include the details. Include details of coordination meetings eg you will need to consult with the maintainer on maintainability , hand over hand back etc Identify what communications , meetings etc that will actually be held . Do not include generic statements Include any TOC, FOC or station arrangements. i.e. if working on a station they would need to review the WPPs they would also need to know if there were any issues if passengers were affected by the works 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager

PCIP Preparation This section is general information 09/11/2018 Gary Wilkes H&S Manager
