Make Martha the Mouse a Happy Home

LO: to know that all animals have needs. LO: to know that animals need different types of homes.

Wood Green looks after lots of different animals every single day Wood Green looks after lots of different animals every single day. All of the animals at Wood Green are either lost, unwanted or abandoned. They are all waiting for one thing…

… a new forever home!

However, it’s really important that the animals live in a home which is right for them!

Can you guess which animals might live in these homes?

Can you help her by making her a happy home? This is Martha the Mouse. She has just come in to Wood Green because her owners couldn’t look after her anymore. She’s feeling a little sad and worried. Can you help her by making her a happy home?

Small Cage Medium Cage Large Cage Firstly, you need to decide what cage Martha might like best!

Although you can buy these two cages from a pet shop, they are much too small for Martha! She would get very bored living in such small cages. Small Cage Medium Cage

This large cage is definitely the best for Martha This large cage is definitely the best for Martha! It will give her lots of space to run around! If you use your imagination you can ‘upcycle’ items to make fantastic animal homes! Large Cage

Next, you need to choose some nice soft bedding for Martha’s little feet. Which bedding do you think we should use? Shredded Paper Sawdust

Shredded paper is the best bedding for little animals like mice and hamsters. It’s very clean and not dusty! Sawdust can have little bugs living in it and the dust could make Martha cough. Shredded Paper

Martha loves her clean shredded paper! But she’s still not feeling very happy… Can you choose a comfy bed for her to sleep in?

Martha loves these little beds, especially when they are full of soft tissue paper! She likes to have a choice of at least two beds to sleep in.

Martha loves her new beds! But she’s still not feeling very happy… Can you choose something for her to play with?

She can run through the tube, climb up the climbing frame and run in the wheel! These toys are great for a mouse like Martha! Martha needs to have lots of things to explore and run around on to keep her healthy and busy.

Martha loves her new toys! But she’s feeling a bit lonely… Rachel the Rat Maisie the Mouse Katie the Kitten Can you choose someone for her to play with?

Martha and Maisie are perfect for each other! Mice need to live with a mouse friend or they can get very lonely. A boy mouse needs to live with other boys and girls need to live with other girls.

All that Martha and Maisie now need is some fresh water to drink and some yummy mouse food scattered around their cage. Mouse Food Water Bowl

Thank you for making Martha a fantastic new home!

All animal have different needs but when thinking about every animal, we always think about their 5 Welfare Needs: Toys Friends Vet Care Home Food & Water Can you remember all the things that Martha needs? Can you draw and label a picture of Martha’s new home?

Here are some of Martha’s friends enjoying their new home at Wood Green:
