Presentation transcript:

Finish the story because Livingston United Methodist Church Feast of the Resurrection

How does it end? Sam + Frodo Aragorn + free peoples Will Sauron enslave + destroy Middle Earth?

Mark 16 When the Sabbath is over Mary Magdalene + Mary mother of James + Salome buy spices so that can go + anoint the body of Jesus Begins with reality of death Not plan or purpose of God God intended life for us

Mark 16 Also saw death + burial What do they expect? women come angel announces*** women leave

The middle is key Do not be amazed. You seek Jesus the Nazarean who was crucified. He is raised. He is not here. Greek egerthe, ouk estin ode Lord of life entered death Death cannot contain him Be go. Say to his disciples – especially Peter Disciples who fled + failed

Tell them what? He is going before you into Galilee. There you will see him. Galilee Beginning Every day life and routine Galilee ~ Livingston

How it ends??? Trembling + confusion have them as they leave. They are afraid because… They leave silent and afraid What is missing? No question Jesus was raised from death. There is no resurrection appearance Why?

Challenge + assurance Truth of the resurrection does not depend on us How do we finish the story? Do we go? Do we tell? Do we look? Jesus restores his disciples + gives them a mission No matter our silence and weak faith, we can always return to the Lord. None of us can go so far away we cannot be touched by God’s healing presence (Gail O’Day)
