History Contacts with Rehabilitation Centres abroad were sought as far back as 1978. In June 1984, Coolemine Lodge Therapeutic Community in Ireland was appointed as consultants in the setting up of the first Rehabilitation Centre in Malta. In March 1985, the very first Rehabilitation Day-Programme was launched. In1988 the Board of Directors of the Foundation for the Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers was formed.

Prison Inmates Programme

Evening Programme 1. Legally employed, 2. Abstinent from illegal substances, alcohol and methadone for a period of 3 months. 3. If a client has been suspended or has split from any other drug rehabilitation the client needs to be abstinent from illegal substances, alcohol and methadone for a minimum of a period of 6 months.

Services offered to clients that lead towards a healthier life-style:

Support during detoxification; Liaison with Doctors and Psychiatrists; Liaison with Probation officers; Spiritual Guidance; Liturgical activities; Therapeutic Groups; Counselling sessions; Sports; Drama therapy; Dance; Crafts and Creativity;

Family-therapy; Weekend planning and evaluation; Parenting Skills groups; Visits by children; Nutrition and Food handling courses; Liaison with ETC for educational courses; Basic literacy and basic mathematics;

Aptitude testing; Job hunting Skills; Work Placements; Housing arrangements.

Giving Back Clients in San Blas Semi-residential support members of staff in Residential and also help out in other services and programmes; Clients in programmes offer voluntary work in external residential homes for the elderly and people with physical disabilities.

Big Brother Clients in Re-entry and After-care support new comers in residential programmes and follow them up throughout their rehabilitations. They are trained and supervised by members of staff to act as support persons.
