Engine Diagnostics Nov-18 Diesel engines do not run totally round. There are masses in linear movement and there are compression and burning cycles which accelerate and decelerate the system. These effects cause variations in the speed. The speed signal contains information about the compression, the burning cycle and the internal friction; or in other words the basis for an engine diagnostics.
