Preparing Your Lab Notebook Your lab notebook is going to be a major part of your grade. You’ll be doing all your labs in one notebook this year. I’ll be writing comments back to you in the lab notebook. In some instances, colleges/universities actually review your lab notebook when considering how much credit to award you. This means you better keep a neat one and if you don’t have one today, you better write these next directions down somewhere.

Preparing Your Lab Notebook On the first page in the notebook, write out a neat title. Lower down, write out your table of contents. “Number” the page as ‘A.’ Advanced Placement Biology Laboratory Notebook A Table of Contents Investigation Page # Date 1. Artificial Selection 1 - 9/2 -

Preparing Your Lab Notebook Reserve the next page for more contents and label it ‘B.’ B

Preparing Your Lab Notebook Label the third page in the notebook as ‘1.’ Add a title. Include your name and lab partners. Consult the Informal Lab Report and Notebook Rubric for what to do next… Lab 1 – Artificial Selection 1 Name: ________ Partners: ________ ________ Materials:

Lab Notebook Tips Write in ink. Cross off any mistakes with one neat line. Number each page. Reserve about five pages per lab. Be neat. Even if you’re not a neat person or have messy handwriting, be neat. I’m serial. Don’t be conservative when it comes to space. I promise you’re not going to fill up the notebook. And the trees are already dead. Let it go.
