Hoyt Middle School Must Carries

ACHIEVEMENT Hoyt Way Definition -Always do your best both academically and socially Bring all of your Supplies Binder/Folder Paper Pencils Planner/Planner Card 6th graders will be carrying Planners – 7th and 8th grade students will be carrying a Planner Card

Binder

Binder A binder is a must carry for all classes in order to keep all of your paper and handouts in one place. If the three ring binder you have does not have built in pockets, then put a couple of pocket folders in Loose leaf paper should be kept in your binder Your planner is three hole punched…. KEEP this in your binder. This is to be carried to ALL classes. ALL means ALL

Paper

Paper Be prepared to write your thinking down at any time. Have loose leaf paper in your binder. Even if you have a special spiral notebook for certain classes often the teacher does not want you removing the paper from that notebook. Loose leaf paper is good to have in your binder. If you have a special spiral notebook for certain classes often the teacher does not want you removing the paper from that notebook.

Pencil

SOMETHING TO WRITE WITH Pencil Believe it or not, you may be asked to get out… hold on… wait for it….. SOMETHING TO WRITE WITH Carry one with you at all times!! Borrowing one is okay if done quickly, but having one with you saves you learning time. Not a pen or highlighter… A pencil

Planner

Planner Passes Restroom Passes Calendar for HOMEWORK Nurse / Office Restroom Passes 9 per quarter averages 1 per wk. Calendar for HOMEWORK Other important dates to remember Write your 4 Must Carries in your planner

Review Get out a piece of paper/Hawk Time notebook Name and date in the upper right hand corner. When writing on lined notebook paper we always put our name and date in the upper right hand corner, some teachers may expect that you write the class period also.

Review 1. What Hoyt Way Rule does the 4 must carries cover? Write #1 on the first line and answer the question… Answer: Achievement

2. What is one must carry and why must we carry it?

3. What is another must carry and why must we carry it?

4. What is a third must carry and why must we carry it?

5. What is the fourth must carry and why must we carry it?

Compare your answers with your elbow partner. Remember you do not have to have them in the same exact order.

Review Question #1 1. Achievement – Always do your best both academically and socially Go through the 4 must carries and have volunteer the must carry, and another volunteer the importance of the must carry until done.

Do you have your 4 must carries? Make a plan in order to make sure you have all of the supplies you will need in order to be successful at Hoyt Middle School. Turn to a neighbor, share what you still need to get and how or when you plan on getting these things to school. Write your plan down! Be sure to cover the fact that if they need some items they can always ask a teacher for some assistance. Writing the plan may make it stick in some of their heads. Share out some plans with the class. This may assist other students with problem solving.

Free Reading Book The more we practice reading the better reader we become. The better reader we are the more vocabulary we have. The more vocabulary we have the better we comprehend. The better we comprehend the better we write. The better we read and write the more literate we are. Those who can read, should.  This is not a must carry but is an okay thing to have with them 
