What Happened? Charles V and the German Princes signed the Peace of Augsburg which allowed each prince (either Catholic or Lutheran) to choose the religion of his subjects Happened in 1555 It is said to have been the beginning of the end of the Protestant Reformation

Who was Involved? Northern Germany and Scandinavia were Lutheran Southern Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, and Scotland were Calvinist Most Europeans supported Protestantism German Princes also supported Protestantism in order to increase their power Charles V

How does this event show religious Disunity in Europe? This treaty caused the division of Europe into a Protestant north and the Catholic south Calvinism spread across Germany causing religious tension
