Reach Together for Success Welcome to our Year 3 & 4 Transition Meeting

There are 3 Mixed Classes for Year 3 & 4: Meet the Team

Mrs McDonald (Eco Leader) Mr Reynolds (ICT Leader & Musical Director!) Mrs Marchant (Part Time Teacher) Miss Elliman (KS2 Leader & Deputy Headteacher)

Mrs Pidgeon (LSA) Miss Richardson (LSA) Mrs Grinsell (LSA) Mrs Pike (LSA)

How we teach… We do not ‘set’ for English – this is taught in our base classes (mixed ability) We do group for maths – there will be a mainly Year 4 set and then 2 mixed ability sets (Y3 and 4 children) All other subjects are taught within our classes Your child may work with an LSA in a small intervention group to ‘boost’ or ‘catch –up’ any identified children

Topics Autumn – The Mayans & The Tudors (Henry VIII) Spring – Rainforests Summer – Ancient Greece Where possible, we will link our trips to our topic for that term.

Homework homework projects. In Year 3 and 4, we do homework projects. Each term, your child will be asked to produce a project based on what they will be learning e.g. The Romans for Autumn term. It can be as creative as you like – all we ask is that you simply help your child and not do it for them!

Examples:

In addition to the projects, children will: Homework Continued… In addition to the projects, children will: Receive weekly spelling investigations homework (handed out on a Wednesday and to be back in on a Wednesday). Children will then have a spelling test on a Wednesday based on the spellings they have had We also expect children to still read at home at least 3 times a week and practise their times tables (by the end of year 4 they will need to know all their times table facts up to 12x12!)

Reading Reading credits. 1 credit is awarded for every time you read with your child but it MUST be signed! Maximum 1 credit per day. Please use the Home-School links book to record when your child has read and make any comments We are updating our current system so we will share more information with you in September

SCHOOL + HOME = SUCCESS Homework continued – High Expectations As a parent you fully expect staff to be prepared, focused and engaged with your child to ensure they achieve their best and receive the best education possible. However, we also need your support to help us achieve this and this includes completing homework. SCHOOL + HOME = SUCCESS

From September, we are therefore going to introduce Golden Time (the same as KS1) every Friday between 2.45 – 3.15pm. This is a reward for all the fantastic work the children do in class all week and for also demonstrating our 5 Rs (which includes being responsible for their homework!) HOWEVER…if homework is not returned or is not completed to a high standard, then your child will complete it in Golden Time. This will also apply for behaviour and children will miss Golden Time if they are not demonstrating our school values

PE/Swimming Swimming will be for Year 4 children only until Feb half term After Feb half term, it will then be Year 3 children PLEASE ensure your child has their PE kit in school and it is clearly labelled! Trainers are preferable Ear-rings are not permitted so please remove them when it is PE day Please tie long hair back Provide socks if your child is wearing tights

General Information: No jewellery allowed except for a watch and/or stud ear-rings Water bottles to be filled with water only please for use in class Your child does not need a pencil case. However, if they wish to bring one, please bring a small one! No mobile phones/toys/fidget spinners etc

School Uniform & PE Kit:

Communication: The school telephone number is 01785 330370 The school website is located at: http://www.burtonmanor.staffs.sch.uk/ The school email address is: office@burtonmanor.staffs.sch.uk The MAIN form of communication you will receive is text message directly to your mobile phone. Please make sure contact details are up-to-date.

Finally…. We want to create life long learners. Our aim is therefore simple – we want to help your child learn so that they can reach for success and leave Burton Manor having achieved the best that they can. HOWEVER…we can only achieve this if we work together! On occasions staff face criticism over an activity which they may be doing entirely out of goodwill, be it running a trip, or a team, or a concert, or a play and an ill crafted comment from an upset parent, even when the point is justified, can result in hurt being caused and a reluctance from staff to continue to go the extra mile, that we so much appreciate of them. Please therefore come and see us (and not post it over FB!) if you have any queries/concerns/issues and we will always do our best to help! Also, please support us with issues such as behaviour, school uniform and homework as this does make a massive difference to your child’s education. Thank you!
