of Leland Stanford Junior University What is Linking? Linking associates a chemical inventory item to classification data in the reference database. It is based on the combination of Chemical Name string and Physical State Linking can occur automatically or be done manually 11/9/2018 © 2016 Stanford University. of Leland Stanford Junior University Why is Linking Important? Linked data is necessary for Regulatory reporting Searching by synonym, Hazard, Storage Group, and/or Regulation Access to safety information, physical properties, hazards, and relevant regulations 11/9/2018 © 2016 Stanford University. of Leland Stanford Junior University The Reference Database ChemTracker maintains a reference database of over 36,000 classified chemicals, mixtures, and commercial products, as well as 115,000 additional synonyms. Each classification Is validated against at least 3 sources such as: CDC, SciFinder, NIH, IRIS, PubChem, Discovery Gate, ARTECS, IRAC, Cameo, EPA SRS, ChemID Reference database of 36,000 chemicals + 115,000 synonyms Is to a finer level of detail than a simple CAS number because chemical properties and hazards vary with concentration. Also, regulatory reporting thresholds vary for solutions with different percentages of constituents. . 11/9/2018 © 2016 Stanford University. of Leland Stanford Junior University Linking During Implementation ChemTracker automatically links chemicals on spreadsheet templates if there is a character-by-character match on the Chemical Name string and Physical State with a classification in the database. To increase automatic linking: Check for typos and misspellings in the Chemical Name column Check for correct Physical States After upload, the ChemTracker Administrator and/or designee is advised to use the Link Inventory Tool to check for unlinked items and then manually link them. Remember, searches by hazards and regulatory reports can only contain linked items. Will not link due to typo in Chemical Name and incorrect Physical State 11/9/2018 © 2016 Stanford University. of Leland Stanford Junior University Linking in Inventory Management When Users Add Inventory in ChemTracker’s Inventory Management software, automatic linking is easy when the User picks from a dropdown list for Chemical Name, Product Number, or CAS number. The User only needs to type a portion of the value and then pick the desired entry from the list. This guarantees the character-by-character match on the Chemical Name string and Physical State with a classification in the database. 11/9/2018 © 2016 Stanford University.
