Graphic Design Project 1 By Helen Bradley.Helen Bradley Date: Jan 20,

Collage is an art form in which multiple photos are combined into a piece of art. The result should be balanced and pleasing to the eye.

All good collages start with one good photo. Choose one you will enjoy working with as your subject. Determine the theme for your collage based on the main photo. Locate other photos that are consistent with the theme and complement it. Make a new folder (collage) and copy all your photos into it.

Create a new document 8 x 10.5 Resolution 300 ppi CMYK Color Mode Background Contents white

Fill the bottom layer with a background on which to work. Having a background saves you from the need to fill every space in the image and avoids ugly gaps. You can use an enlarged photo and stretch it to fit. Paint the background by filling it with a solid color paint over it with textured brushes. Fill the background by clicking the Gradient, choose colors, and dragging to fill with the gradient

Place each object in its own layer To cut the main image from its background: Select around subject using selection tool of choice Feather (Select Feather) Invert (Select Inverse) Press delete Transform each object to make it pleasing to the eye

Copyright notationalt 0169 ©2011 Mrs. Hartley Name of theme

Layer the objects so those that should be behind other objects are in layers below them in the Layers palette. Use layer styles to create shadows, match the angle of light

Make main image the largest image Use repeated elements, colors, shapes to unite the collage Keep in mind the Rule of Thirds Place objects over the edge for a more dynamic feel Position objects that suggest movement in a particular direction so they face into the image Choose and arrange elements so they appear to share the same source of light

To make a great collage!!!
