Interview with Marilyn Manson and David Letterman in 1998. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vyZK_CKkZo At the start Letterman introduces himself and he also shows a clip of what Marilyn Manson is like on stage and also mentions about his new book. Letterman looks really well presented and comfortable. When Marilyn appears he is really comfortable and really erudite, the lighting in this is really good and you can clearly see both people. The sound is fairly good too, Marilyn speaks really fluently, however sometimes Letterman speaks quietly. Its really well shot, however there isn't a lot of room between them both, the posture is really good. Marilyn answers the questions really well and gives loads of information and the interview goes on really well an there is always something to talk about it isn't awkward either. Some parts of it Marilyn looks fairly bored, there is lack of eye contact in places. Letterman mentions his biography again but this time with Marilyn talking about it, he lets people in on what its about. Marilyn speaks the truth and is really honest with his answers. He then mentions his book for the third time and then says goodbye to Marilyn.
Andy Biersack interview with Hot Topic on the 19th May 2014. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiALBDtn0n0 The video opens with Andy introducing himself, he then explains to the viewer what he is going to be talking about; his new solo album and working in conjunction with Black Veil Brides. Then the title screen is shown, featuring Andy’s name and the title of his new single, over this title screen a clip of his new song can be heard. Andy starts the interview with talking about his musical influences throughout his life. As he talks his new song can be heard playing in the background also while he speaks the camera pans between a medium close up shot of Andy from the front and a medium close up shot from his left side. While he speaks the interview it cuts to clips of the music video for his new song. He talks about his new song and how it differs in relation to the songs by Black Veil Brides. During this portion of the video the camera continues to pan between medium close up and close up shots. The camera pans into an extreme close up for a moment while Andy talks about the importance of the music to him. The interview then immediately cuts to a clip of his new music video and the music playing in the background becomes much louder and more prominent. The entire interview is filmed in black and white, this ties in well with the themes featured in the ‘they don’t need to understand’ music video; as the video is filmed almost entirely in black and white. This creates a strong link between the music video and the interview taking place.
Interview with Twenty One Pilots with Warner Music Australia on 17th January 2016. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmcV8wmnK7Y Before the interview even starts there is a commonly known ‘Hello my name is…’ sticker which says the band name. By this short intro you can tell the interview will be conducted in a professional way and that a lot of time has been put into making it look good. As soon as the band come on the screen they introduce who they are individually and their band name. In the few seconds that this takes place there is two different camera shots, one a mid-close up where you can see them sitting on the sofa and a close up of just their shoulders up. The background for the video is very minimalistic; just flowers in nice flower pots, this does not take the attention away from the band. Whilst the interview is taking place we hardly hear the interviewer talk, the questions are all written on the screen for us as opposed to them saying. We hear him talk once when clarifying a question for the band. By the interviewer doing this it makes all the focus be on the band instead of the interviewer. The lighting in this video is good, you can see everything clearly, the band, and the background. I can tell that studio lights are being used due to the reflection of them in the vases behind the band. There are two clear camera shots used in this interview, mid-close up and a close up. These shot change throughout the video. To me this shows that there is two cameras being used as there is no jump cuts in the editing and the movements of the band whilst talking is also flowing. The camera is angled so they are not looking directly at the camera, they are looking off to the side to talk to the interviewer. The atmosphere of the interview is very casual and the questions being asked are not offensive, intrusive, or rude. You can tell the interviewee’s are comfortable being there, their body language is relaxed and they’re not struggling to answer the questions. Their attire also indicates that they’re comfortable as they are wearing casual clothes and sunglasses.
