Current UKC King County is the local government for more than a quarter-million people living in unincorporated King County (UKC). Taken together, the UKC would be the second largest city in Washington—larger than Spokane. As the local service provider, King County currently provides such critical services as: ● Road Services ● Planning and Permitting (including inspections, business licenses, on-site sewage systems, and plumbing and gas piping) ● Storm water ● Animal Services ● Parks and Recreation ● Emergency Management ● Public Safety ● District Court Red denotes Seattle City limits. Gray, other incorporated areas. White, UKC/rural.
Review Proxy of city services delivered in unincorporated King County 35 activities typically provided by cities Preliminary look at performance and cost
Findings Process integration lacking Lacking single point of contact, at times confusing Outward communication uneven Issue management across agencies inconsistent
Recommendations Address process integration challenge of permitting Minimize disruption of reorganization Focus on performance and delivery Intensify outreach and planning with UKC Engage employees
