ASIA: PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY
Boundaries of Asia The North: Asia is bounded on the north by the Arctic Ocean (and the Kara Sea, the Laptev Sea, and the East Siberian Sea. The East: Asia is bounded on the east by the Pacific Ocean (and the Bering Straits (between Siberia & Alaska), Bering Sea, and Philippine Sea). The West: Asia is bounded on the west by Europe, separated by the Urals, Ural River, Caspian Sea, Caucasus, Black Sea, Turkish Straits, and Mediterranean) The Southwest: Asia is bounded on the southwest by Africa separated by the Isthmus of Suez, the Gulf of Suez, the Red Sea, the Straits of Bab-al-Mandeb, and the Gulf of Aden. The South: Asia is bounded on the south by the Indian Ocean (the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal) and the Timor Sea and Arafura Sea which separate Asia from Australia, and the Halmahera, Ceram, and Banda Seas which separate Asia from New Guinea. The Wallace Line is a boundary between the flora of Asia and the flora of Australia, devised by the famous naturalist A. R. Wallace.
