Presentation transcript:

Study skills Try these tips to improve your learning: Quiz yourself or a partner on class concepts and find out how much you really know. Focus on recalling the answers from memory. Leave the laptop at home! Taking notes by hand forces you to be more selective about what you write down. And it keeps distractions to a minimum. As soon as you can after class, reorganize your notes to increase clarity and understanding. Create questions from assigned readings before class to ask during class. Find more study tips at www.wichita.edu/studyskills. Spring 2018

Midterm preparation Check your syllabus for information on what type of exam, assignment or project is expected for each class. Establish a study schedule for midterms. You may need to sacrifice some personal or social time in order to prepare as best you can. Create a study group to review information from class. Study groups and active learning can help you retain more information than if you studied on your own. Include students who are motivated to do well in your group. Check out www.wichita.edu/studyskills for more ideas and information. Spring 2018

Test preparation – quick tips Try these things to prepare for exams. More ideas are available at www.wichita.edu/studyskills. Immediately before the test: Get rid of nervous energy and get your blood flowing by taking a quick walk. Make sure you have all necessary items needed for the test (pen/pencil, blue book, textbook). Get to class a bit early and sit in your regular seat. Get plenty of rest the night before (and leading up to) the exam/s. Eat a good breakfast or have a healthy snack – don’t choose a candy bar! If you drink caffeine while studying, drink a little bit of caffeine prior to the test (but don’t slam a Red Bull!) During the test: As soon as you receive a copy of the test, jot down important info you need to remember. Answer easier questions first to gain confidence.
