Welcome to St. Andrew’s RC Secondary School Putting Young People First S2 Parents’ Information Evening 8th March 2018

Your son/daughter’s Learner Journey so far… Experiences and Outcomes Experiences: Increased subject depth/breadth/challenge, skilled behaviours – team work, commitment, pride in achieving progress, seeking advice, working with others, cooperative learning, skills for learning, developing good foundations of study, h/w, focus Outcomes – new/developed/improved KU, maturity – interpersonal skills, new horizons in learning, aspirations, connections in learning, professional learner status Tracking reports – Dec 17 and April 18

What are we doing now? Total Periods = 33 English x 4 Maths x 4 Social Subjects x 4 (2 +2) Spanish x 2 French x 1 Expressive – Mus, Art, Drama x 3 RE x 2 PE x 3 Technologies – ICT, Technical, Home Ecs x 3 Science x 3 Masterclass x 2 Personal Achievement x 1 TG -2 x 25mins (1) Total Periods = 33

What are we doing next? Before end of this term Conversations need to take place At home….. In school….. What subjects?, what career?, what does my future hold? Where do I get info….etc etc etc…..

Timetable Structure – S3 English x 4 Maths x 4 Spanish x 2 French x 1 RE x 2 PE x 3 No change Expressive – Mus, Art, Drama x 3 Science x 3 Technologies – ICT, Technical, Home Ecs x 3 Personal Achievement x 1 TG -2 x 25mins (1) Social Subjects reduced from 4 (2 + 2) to 3 single subject choice Masterclass – 2 periods – removed 1 period from Social subject and 2 from Masterclass = 3 for an elective subject Total Periods = 33

S3 Choices Pupils will OPT to study one Social Subject for 3 periods

S3 Choices Pupils will opt to specialise in one of the discrete Sciences for 3 periods

Elective choice Pupils can complete their choices for S3 classes with a further choice from: Sciences – Biology, Chemistry or Physics OR Social Subjects – History, Geog or Mod Studies OR Expressive Arts – Music, Art or Drama OR Technologies – ICT, Technical or Home Economics

Think about the future …… Think about the future ……. Whilst some of the elective choices can be new, discuss possible options: Think about careers, best subjects, subjects that your son/daughter really enjoys…. Choices for S4 will be based on attainment in S3

Pupils who achieve mostly level 3 by the end of S3 will likely undertake N4 courses in S4 Pupils who achieve level 4 by the end of S3 will most likely undertake N5 courses in S4 Pupils who achieve enhanced level 4 in most subjects by end of S3 may well be suitable to undertake 2 year higher pathway (6 Highers) in S4

What are we doing next? Talk Talk Talk……. Week beginning 12th March Special Assembly S2 – Tuesday 13th March Pupils will be issued with options form and given time to discuss it with parents at home. Signed forms must be returned no later than 15th March
