The global dental caries epidemic Premise: Only if you understand the problem you have a chance to fix it So: If you know the extent of the caries epidemic (who, where, how bad) you are able to formulate oral care policy, as well as provision of treatment and prevention In other words: If you have a database on the oral health status of a population, i.e. the result of an oral health survey then you are able to … etc.

Anything new ? well …, NO or …, perhaps YES ?

Time, time, time !! Oral health surveys The obstacle to keep annually updated data on oral health has always been the cumbersome classic survey process: Data acquisition in the field requires: Distributing paper dental charts to the field Charting the subjects Collecting the charts Central data processing into oral health statistics requires: Transporting the paper charts to central location Transferring data into statistics software Creating statistics and graphs Compiling the paper survey report Distributing copies of the report Time, time, time !!

Cloud surveying and processing Tasks of the optimized all-online process: Chart distribution e-Charting (digital odontogram: on laptop, tablet, smart phone) Instant generation of population statistics directly from the odontograms Report distribution Evaluation of the DentalCharting tool was carried out: Objective: evaluate the tool (usefulness, efficiency, ease of use) At 9 partner dental colleges + Radboud University advice February – May 2018 Paperless
