Technology Readiness

Desktop Windows, Mac, and Linux Test delivered via a Secure Browser downloaded on to the student’s computer or deployed via the school's network For Windows, available as .msi package for easy deployment via group policy

Chromebook Options to fit your school’s deployment of Chromebooks Chromebook App deployed via Google Enterprise Services Google Secure Managed Accounts Request made to Questar Customer Support District provided with spreadsheet containing Secure Account logins Once student/teacher logs the Chromebook into the secure account, only a secure version of Google Chrome in a kiosk mode can be accessed. Only URL accessible is Questar's WebClient site

iPad and Android Apps available for iPad and Android Devices Require students to be in Guided Access prior to accessing the test to ensure a secure environment Guided Access is a feature that temporarily limits access to one application Guided Access prevents students from using the internet, Siri, or other applications during testing iPad: Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access

Recovery During Testing If network connectivity is lost during the test, the student should continue to test and submit the test. DO NOT move the student to another device. The device will continue trying to reconnect indefinitely to upload the test responses. If the Nextera Secure Browser session must be terminated or the device is powered down, restart Nextera Secure Browser once network connectivity is restored. This will send remaining responses to the Questar server. DO NOT “clean” the device until this transfer has occurred.

Technical Coordinator Checklist iPads Screen size 9.7’’ or greater Version 2 or newer iOs7.x or newer installed All needed group policy requirements per the Setup and Readiness Guide, including “Guided Access,” will be implemented in order to maintain test security Chromebooks All Chromebooks must be logged in to the secure accounts provided by Questar prior to students logging in to the Nextera Secure Browser

Nextera Technical Requirements Desktops Tablets Windows Macintosh Linux Chrome iOS Android Operating System Vista | 7 | 8 | 10 2003 | 2008 | 2012 (latest service pack) Mac OS X 10.6+ Fedora 16+ Ubuntu 10.4 | 11.10 |12.4 Chromebook on OS v29+ iPad on iOS 7+ Android tablet on OS 4.2+ Windows tablet on 8 Processor Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6 Ghz equivalent or higher CPU 1.6 Ghz + or equivalent 1.0 Ghz dual core equivalent or higher System Memory Minimum 512MB Free Ram Recommended 1 GB Free RAM Minimum 1 GB Free Storage Space Supported Browsers Internet Explorer v9+ Microsoft Edge Mozilla Firefox 38+ Google Chrome 42+ Apple Safari 8 Chrome Kiosk mode support available Screen Size & Resolution Recommend 11.6" or larger screen size for desktops Minimum 1024 X 768 screen resolution Minimum 9.7" screen size LAN Network Min: 802.11g Wireless 54Mbps or greater; 100 Mbps LAN for desktops / Minimum available LAN bandwidth at each workstation: 1Mbps Rec: 802.11n Wireless 150 Mbps or higher; 1 Gbps LAN for desktops / Recommended available LAN bandwidth at each workstation 2 Mbps Internet Speed Minimum per device: 150 Kbps Recommended: 300 Kbps

System Requirements Notes Platform Notes Chromebooks Chromebooks are supported with a Kiosk-mode Chromebook app as well as on Chrome through secure managed accounts Windows The Windows secure browser is 32-bit and runs equally well on 32-bit and 64-bit systems All Nextera has no Java or Flash components or dependencies Linux The Linux secure browser is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit packages supporting all major Linux distributions (.deb and .rpm packages) Mac The Mac secure browser is 64-bit only. Only Intel Macs are supported, which are all 64-bit Thin Clients While Questar’s platform does support thin client use, there are a broad range of thin client types and configurations. Therefore, additional testing is required to ensure all functionality is supported on a specific setup. Under “All” – highlight that there are no other dependencies

Headset Recommendations Stereo headset with built-in microphone required Over ear headsets recommended Consider a supply of ear buds to meet needs of students who wear head scarves or wraps Not needed: Noise cancellation feature Volume control feature Windscreens (foam covers) Connector Plugs must be compatible with testing device One 3.5 mm plug Two 3.5 mm plugs (need ‘Y’ adapter for tablets) USB connector (not supported for iPad or Android) The sound files of the assessment are recorded and played back in stereo Over ear headsets are more comfortable for longer periods of time by students of different ages. They are also easier to clean between uses. Noise cancellation features often require a power source, students will be able to adjust the volume using the testing device Windscreens are difficult to clean between uses USB-connected headsets require driver installation and may need to be enabled as playback/recording device Bluetooth or wireless headsets are not recommended
