About Nuclear power is an increasingly interesting topic because of it’s recent activity in Japan This energy source makes up 12% of the worlds electrcity, if it is abandoned, what will replace it?

Furthermore Nuclear Power has it pros and cons… + (powerful energy source) - (safety, radiation exposure)

The Project As a group, we were looking to see how different groups felt toward the subject We were interested in whether they would be in support or in opposition

Subgroup A Gender- Female Race- White Religious Affiliation- Christian

Subgroup B Gender- Male Education Level- Senior Year or High School Economic Status- Middle Class Age- 17-18

Subgroup C Education Level- High School Economic Status- Middle Class Age- 42-60 Registered voters

Questions 1) How much of the worlds energy is derived from nuclear generated sources? 2) In general, do you support nuclear power? 3) Do you consider nuclear power to be a green energy? 4) Do you think that we should build more nuclear power plants? 5) Do you believe that nuclear power is necessary for reducing our independence on oil? 6) How far from a nuclear power plant would you be willing to live? 7) Does nuclear power pose as great of risks as the media portrays? 8) In light of the recent accidents in Germany and Japan has your view on nuclear power changed?

Expectations for Group A 10% to 15% (How much of the worlds energy is derived from nuclear generated sources? ) No (In general, do you support nuclear power?) Yes, but it is not worth the risk (Do you consider nuclear power to be a green energy? ) No (Do you think that we should build more nuclear power plants?) Other green energies can and should be used (Do you believe that nuclear power is necessary for reducing our independence on oil?) More than 100 miles (How far from a nuclear power plant would you be willing to live?) The risks are bad, but not as bad as the media portrays (Does nuclear power pose as great of risks as the media portrays?) Yes, slightly (In light of the recent accidents in Germany and Japan has your view on nuclear power changed?)

Expectations for Group B 5% to 10% (How much of the worlds energy is derived from nuclear generated sources? ) I like the benefits, however the risks concern me (In general, do you support nuclear power?) Yes, in combinations with other green energies (Do you consider nuclear power to be a green energy? ) No (Do you think that we should build more nuclear power plants?) Other green energies can and should be used (Do you believe that nuclear power is necessary for reducing our independence on oil?) Within 50 miles (How far from a nuclear power plant would you be willing to live?) The risks are bad, but not as bad as the media portrays (Does nuclear power pose as great of risks as the media portrays?) Yes, significantly (In light of the recent accidents in Germany and Japan has your view on nuclear power changed?)

Expectations for Group C Less than 5% (How much of the worlds energy is derived from nuclear generated sources? ) No (In general, do you support nuclear power?) No (Do you consider nuclear power to be a green energy? ) No (Do you think that we should build more nuclear power plants?) Other green energies can and should be used (Do you believe that nuclear power is necessary for reducing our independence on oil?) Within 100 miles (How far from a nuclear power plant would you be willing to live?) Yes, the risks are as great (Does nuclear power pose as great of risks as the media portrays?) Yes, significantly (In light of the recent accidents in Germany and Japan has your view on nuclear power changed?)

Subgroup A 5) Other green energies can and should be used (C) 6) More than 100 miles (D) 7) The risks are bad, but not as bad as the media portrays (C) 8) Yes, slightly (B)

Subgroup B 5% to 10% (B) I like the benefits, however the risks concern me (C) Yes, in combinations with other green energies (C) No (B)

Subgroup B 5) Other green energies can and should be used (C) 6) Within 50 miles (B) 7) The risks are bad, but not as bad as the media portrays (C) 8) Yes, significantly (A)

Subgroup C Less than 5% (A) No (B)

Subgroup C 5) Other green energies can and should be used (C) 6) Within 100 miles (C) 7) Yes, the risks are as great (A) 8) Yes, significantly (A)

Conclusion From this assignment we have learned that the characteristics that people use to define who they are plays a significant role in how their opinions are shaped. There will always be discrepancies however, for the majority of time people’s opinions can be predicted through their different characteristics
