Sea of Japan Full moon depiction at night using VIIRS Day Night Band (DNB) with Enhanced IR along with an application of the Lunar reflection model developed by Steve Miller. The enhancement assists in enhancing features within a variety of lunar phases. Note the contrast between the high cirrus shield in the middle and upper right (white/dull blue shades) vs the middle and low cloud field (bright yellow) throughout the rest of the image. Acknowledgments: Naval Research Laboratory, Marine Meteorology Division Tom Lee, Jeremy Solbrig, Kim Richardson, Mindy Surratt, Arunas Kuciauskas, Rich Bankert, Jeff Hawkins, Steve Miller (CIRA), and John Kent (SAIC) VIIRS data is provided by CIMSS Peate via NOAA CLASS.

Sea of Japan Fishing activity With less cloud coverage, this DNB with Enhanced IR image a few nights later (nearly full moon conditions) shows a variety of fishing activity (numerous small yellow dots) throughout the Sea of Japan. Acknowledgments: Naval Research Laboratory, Marine Meteorology Division Tom Lee, Jeremy Solbrig, Kim Richardson, Mindy Surratt, Arunas Kuciauskas, Rich Bankert, Jeff Hawkins, Steve Miller (CIRA), and John Kent (SAIC) VIIRS data is provided by CIMSS Peate via NOAA CLASS.
