Presentation transcript:

Sound Design the process of specifying, acquiring, manipulating or generating audio elements.

Room Tone & Ambience In this video from the vimeo video school, we learn about room tone and ambience

the "silence" or the "noise" of a room, set Room Tone the "silence" or the "noise" of a room, set or location. Used by film editors as a"bed"to form a continuous tone through aparticular scene. No room is really silent.

Ambiance Ambient sound or ambient audio means the background sounds which are present in a scene or location. Common ambient sounds include wind, water, birds, crowds, office noises, traffic, etc. Prevents an unnatural silence when no other sound is present and establishes or reinforces the mood.

FOLEY Gary Hecker is a foley artist. This clip talks about what foley artists do.

FOLEY Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects which are added in post production to enhance the quality of audio for films. These sounds can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass. The best foley art is so well integrated into a film that it goes unnoticed by the audience. It helps to create a sense of reality within a scene.

A.D.R. (AUTOMATED DIALOG REPLACEMENT)

A.D.R. The process whereby an actor rerecords lines spoken during filming in order to improve audio quality or reflect dialogue changes is called Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR). Wednesday, November

This clip demonstrates ambient sound and using sound, or the absence there-of to enhance visuals (Saving Private Ryan - Omaha beach opening scene - graphic)
