UN Security Council The UNSC adopted WPS resolutions to address its concern about “persistent obstacles to women’s full involvement in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and their participation in post-conflict public life. It acknowledged that the marginalisation of women can delay or undermine the achievement of sustainable peace, security and reconciliation”. S/2010/173.

WPS Pillars Prevention: Prevention of conflict and all forms of violence against women and girls in conflict and post-conflict situations. Participation: Women participate equally with men and gender equality is promoted in peace and security decision-making processes at local, national, regional and international levels. Protection: Women’s and girls’ rights are protected and promoted in conflict-affected situations, including protection from SEA and GBV. Relief and Recovery: Women and girls’ specific relief needs are met and women’s capacities to act as agents in relief and recovery are reinforced in conflict and post-conflict situations.
