Reading Projects

All Fiction Projects Must Contain the Following Elements and are due May 4, 2017: 1. Title 2. Author 3. Publisher and publication date 4. Main Characters 5. Setting 6. Tone/Mood 7. Author’s Purpose 8. Plot Summary (can be all in one as a plot diagram) 9. Conflict 10.Resolution

Make sure you have the appropriate classroom heading on the upper right hand corner of the back of your poster or display board The TITLE is the name of the book. The AUTHOR is the person who wrote the book. The NAME OF THE PUBLISHER can be found on the verso* page (sometimes called the copyright page). The verso is the back of the title page. The DATE THE BOOK WAS PUBLISHED can also be found on the verso page. HINT: It is usually found after a little c with a circlearound it like this: ©1999. Publication date of 1999.

Plot Summary, Problem & Resolution Author’s Purpose & Mood/Tone A brief description of the order of events in the story. Use complete sentences. Example - In this story, the Little Red Hen tries to get her friends to help her complete all of the tasks involved in baking the bread. No one will help her bake the bread, so she does it all by herself. What is the problem within the story? Do I really need to tell you to write in complete sentences again? Example - The problem in the story is that none of the Little Red Hen’s friends will help her bake the bread. Each time she asks them to help they say no. What is the result of solving the problem in the story? What kind of sentences?? Example - Since no one would help the Little Red Hen make her bread, she ate it all by herself when it was done. Can use a plot diagram. Tell in a complete sentence why the author wrote this book. Example - The author’s purpose was to entertain with a funny story about what happens with you don’t help others. How did the author want you to feel when writing the story? How did it make you feel? Write in complete sentences. Example - I think the mood of the story is fun because of the way the characters repeat the same phrases when asked for help.

WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE?  My project should reference a chapter book or picture book at my independent or challenging reading level (sixth grade or higher) Is the writing neat and easy to understand? Is my finished project visually neat and appealing?  Did I use complete sentences!  Did I use my imagination? Did I make the product creative and interesting?  Did I follow directions, (HAVE ALL COMPONENTS) and is my project durable (no pieces falling off)?  Did I include the requested and most important information?  Do I understand what the author was trying to say in the story?  Does my project make others want to read it? Did I do the work myself?  Did I do my best!  Am I proud of my project!  Did I learn something I never knew before!  Did I remember to use correct sentence formation and grammar rules on my finished product?
