System Start-up At system start, the engine and system instruments are displayed on the left side of the PFD in order to provide information necessary for the start-up sequence.

PFD Instrument Display Ball replaced by trapezoid Altitude bug is pilot memory aid Altitude tape range is 600 feet Airspeed tape range is 60 knots Rate of turn trend marks replace turn coordinator and indicate amount of turn in six seconds

PFD Instrument Display Waypoint Status Bar Comm Frequencies Standby Active Active Standby Navigation Frequencies Transponder Outside Air Temperature Clock

Controls for PFD and MFD Pilot can make all inputs with right hand in the central “tuning area.” NOTE: CAP aircraft have a second audio panel to the right of the MFD.

Controls for PFD and MFD Volume & Squelch Com toggle & emergency key Com frequency selector* Large knob tunes megahertz Small knob tunes kilohertz Push to select b/w Com 1 / Com 2 Baro (altimeter setting) Course (triangle) Range & Joystick Turn to select map range Push to use as joystick

MFD Organization The FPL (flight plan) soft key functions like a separate chapter with pages. FPL chapter pages include: Active flight plan Catalog Vertical nav Use FPL pages to create, load, save, modify, or activate flight plans. FPL pages allow loading of stored flight plans This function is not available on the PFD.

Flight Plan and User Waypoints Creating a new User Waypoint Select WPT chapter, User Waypoint page Select ‘New” waypoint Use FMS knobs to name the waypoint, ie ‘A1’, ‘A2’ Roll cursor down to lat/long and enter the new waypoint lat/long Press ENT to save the new user defined waypoint

Enter and store a flight plan FPL key Activate cursor

Enter and store a flight plan Note navigation status bar and “D-bar” on the e-HSI. Use FMS knobs to enter waypoints (could be an airport, intersection, or the user waypoint you previously built) Flight plan is active as soon as you have two waypoints entered. “U” symbol between KJYO and STILL in Flight Plan inset indicates that KJYO-STILL is the active leg.

Enter and store a flight plan Use MENU key to bring up options for this page. “Store Flight Plan” is the default option; press ENT to accept.

Insert a New Waypoint in a flight plan Activate cursor and turn large outer knob LEFT to highlight insertion point.

MFD Map Interpretation Obstacle Proximity Obtacles are shown on the MAP chapter’s NAVIGATION MAP page. The colors indicate proximity to the obstacle. Note: CAP does not subscribe to obstacle database updates.

MFD MAP Interpretation Terrain Proximity The MAP chapter’s terrain proximity page uses color coding to display proximity to terrain. Red indicates terrain within 100’ or above aircraft Yellow indicate terrains within 1000’ of aircraft’s altitude Terrain database is updated ANNUALLY AWARENESS ONLY

Direct to a waypoint in flight plan (1-2) Activate cursor; highlight waypoint Press direct-to key and then ENT

Direct to a waypoint in flight plan (3-4) Press ENT again to confirm/activate. Note the arrow symbol next to direct-to WPT (vice “U” symbol indicating a waypoint-to-waypoint leg).
