"Desire" About 50 different Hebrew and Greek words are translated “desire.” The collective meaning involves: “To stretch the arms for,” “delight in,” “to seek after,” “to be zealous of.” The Bible addresses “desire” (Ps. 37: 4, 5, 38: 9, Prov. 10: 24). Many obsessed with desire (cp. Eccl. 2: 10). There are good desires (I Tim. 3: 1). Introduction: In addressing desire, this presentation is very elemental and motivational in its essential nature.

"Desire" Good Desire Bad Desire 1. Desire to be with the Lord 1. Desire of the slothful 2. Desire salvation of others 2. Desire the flesh 3. The desire to do right 3. Desire evil companions I shall supply the matching verses for each point below: Phili. 1: 23, Heb. 11: 16, 2 Cor. 5: 2 (“good”) / Prov. 21: 25, 13: 4 (“bad”). Rom. 10: 1-3 / Eph. 2: 3, 2, Prov. 21: 10 2 Cor. 7: 11 / Prov. 24: 1, 2. Acts 13: 7, Jas. 1: 18, 21 / Ps. 112: 9, 10. Prov. 11: 23 / Jas. 4: 2. 4. Desire to hear the word 4. Desire of wicked perish 5. Desire of righteous good 5. Desire to have (covet)

Our desires are to conform to God’s desires: “14: And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him” (I John 5). The point of slide three is to stress that the desires of the Christian ought to be in unison with God’s desires. Thus, answered prayer becomes a reality.
