7th Grade Social Studies Brought to you by Mr. Davenport and Wendell Middle School

A little bit about me Born in Wendell NC State Alumni – GO PACK!!!! Language Arts and Social Studies Certified, so spelling and grammar will count Enjoy books, videogames, and anything with a good story Avid Martial Artist

The Classroom: Basic Rules Respect should always be shown. The golden rule applies in this classroom. Come prepared for class every day. Follow the H.O.W.L. procedures at all times.

Are we done yet? Core 1: 7:30 – 8:29 Core 2: 9:05 – 10:03 Core 3: 10:06 – 11:04 Core 4: 1:15 – 2:15

Seats Your seats have been assigned. Seats are subject to change due to: Behavior Gaining or losing students

Coming In Walk in QUIETLY Copy any homework information from the side-board. Get out last night’s homework to go over. Complete the warm up activity QUIETLY.

If you’re late… Core 1: Place your tardy pass in the blue bin on Mr. Davenport’s desk. Core 2/3/4: Write your name on the board under “lunch detention” without interrupting class. Core 4 – If you are running late from electives (gym, band, etc.) check in before sitting down. If the bell rings and you have not checked in, we have a problem.

If you have to leave Raise your hand and wait to be called on. When you have permission: Get your agenda signed (No agenda = NO PASS, NO EXCUSES). Sign out with your name and destination under the “Stepped Out” sheet at the front of the room. Also, write your name on the board under “Stepped Out”

…Without a signed Agenda

Handing in Assignments Each core has their own tray where completed work should be placed. Turning work into the wrong tray can result in lost work that may be considered late. After the first quarter any misplaced work will find a new home in the recycling bin. Posters and large assignments will be placed on the shelves next to the trays. Take pride in your name. Put it on everything you hand in. NO NAME = NO GRADE

No homework to hand in? Complete a “No Homework” slip and place it in the appropriate bin. You have two – I say again, 2 – weeks to make up assignments. If you haven’t completed all work for a unit, you may not retest for the unit exam.

Testing Copy All tests and quizzes to your agenda. Assessments will be posted on blackboard. You will receive a study guide for each test.

…Cheating… Things that will get you a big old ZERO on your work: Talking during a test or quiz (even after yours is handed in). Copying a friends homework. Letting a friend copy YOUR homework Cheating also results in an immediate call home to discuss your bad decisions.

Being prepared to learn Bring in your: Social Studies notebook Paper Highlighter Pencils/Pens Unsharpened pencils may be sharpened silently before the bell rings. Things happen. If you must sharpen your pencil in class then hold it in the air without speaking.

Forgot something? Materials Work Extra pens/pencils may be found on Mr. Davenport’s desk. Ask your classmates about paper. If you forget something in your locker and need to retrieve it, ask me. You will have one freebie for this. Every offense after will be counted as a tardy.

Disposables Trash Tissues Place trash to the side of your desk during class and throw it away when dismissed. If we are working actively around the room, throw away materials as necessary Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat and grab a tissue. For health reasons, throw these away ASAP.

Food and Gum Food Gum Period 4: Food stays in the cafeteria. If you fail to follow this rule you will have to clean tables the following day for the entire seventh grade. None in the classroom. If caught, you will be asked to spit it out. Repeat offenders will be given lunch detention

The side board is your friend All assignments, due dates, and quiz dates will be posted there. You may also find them on Remind 101 and Blackboard.

Materials will be provided for crafting assignments Extra materials are available on request. Ask Mr. Davenport where to find them.

Off-Limits Mr. Davenport’s desk is a no-go zone. You may not go there unless you have permission. You may not leave your seat unless granted permission.

Cell Phones You are not allowed to have them in school. BUT… If you have it at school, keep it in your locker. If you keep it in your pocket and 1. I see it or 2. it falls out, it’s mine. I will transfer it to the office and your parent/guardian will need to pick it up.

Final notes Announcements/calls/visitors Getting attention If a disruption happens, this is not your cue to talk or stop working. Do not interrupt a teacher’s conversation unless it is an emergency. Getting attention During group or individual work the teacher will either 1. give the arm signal or 2. flip the lights on and off. This means it’s time to give the teacher your FULL attention. Do not push your luck to finish a story.

Fire/Tornado/Lockdown Keep calm Follow all announcements and directions Stay respectful and again CALM

A little bit about you Time to see how well your friends and classmates know you. On a half-sheet of paperwrite down three facts about yourself that you don’t think anyone would guess. Fold the paper twice and place it in the bin at the front of the class Once everyone has put in their slip, grab another out of the bin and read it silently to yourself We will go around the class and see who can guess the author of their note
