The new GCSE course limits choice from previous years. GCSE Science Choice The new GCSE course limits choice from previous years. Choice of either: GCSE Combined Science (Double Award) GCSE Triple Science ELC Science No Coursework but compulsory practical endorsement.

GCSE Science Choice To select GCSE Triple Science students need a minimum grade of a grade 9SEC* The Combined Science course covers the majority of the triple science course content. Students this year have moved between double and triple science at the early stages of the course.

GCSE Biology offers students: GCSE Triple Science GCSE Biology offers students: A firm foundation to go on to study A-level Biology A good background to specialise in other sciences The opportunity to gain a good understanding across a broad range of rich and relevant topics in: human biology organisms evolution the environment.

GCSE Chemistry offers students: GCSE Triple Science GCSE Chemistry offers students: A firm foundation to study A-level Chemistry A good background to specialise in other sciences The opportunity to gain a good understanding of: the nature of substances and how they react together how our knowledge of chemistry is used in business and industry how our use of raw materials as fuels and in manufacturing can affect the local and global environment.

GCSE Combined Science offers students: GCSE Triple Science GCSE Combined Science offers students: A good knowledge of science, studying the majority of content from GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics. A firm foundation to go on to study A-level Science subjects if target grades are met. The opportunity to gain a good understanding across topics such as: keeping healthy elements and atoms the transfer of energy.

GCSE Triple Science Exam Schedule Module Teacher Paper details Weighting Physics P1, P2 Mr Burn 1 hour 45mins, 100 marks 50% each Biology B1, B2 Mr Marshall Chemistry C1, C2 Miss Barker Practical (8 Practicals) TBD Internal Assessment 0% but required Paper 1 and Paper 2 Exams are to be sat in the summer term of year 11

GCSE Combined Science Exam Schedule Module Teacher Paper details Weighting Physics P1, P2 Mr Burn 1 hour 15mins, 70 marks 16.7% each Biology B1, B2 Miss Halden Chemistry C1, C2 Mr Burn / Miss Halden Practical (21 Practicals) TBD Internal Assessment 0% but required Paper 1 and Paper 2 Exams are to be sat in the summer term of year 11

GCSE Combined Science Practical Endorsement There will be no controlled assessment (ISAs) in the new GCSE. Instead students will be assessed on their practical skills in their exams with 15% of the marks coming from questions relating to practical activities. Students will be awarded a practical endorsement if they successfully complete a number of practical's which will not contribute to their overall grade.

GCSE Combined Science Practical Endorsement Triple Science Practical's: 10 Biology, 8 Chemistry, 10 Physics Combined Science Practical's: 7 Biology, 6 Chemistry and 8 Physics Students will need to make a record of their work and what they have learnt.
