What to wear (and not wear) on Debate Day 2014

Basic Rules for Dress Dress as if you are going to an interview, not a social gathering. Dress to be taken seriously. Dress school appropriately. Dress conservative and not distractingly. Dress in something you will not be tempted to adjust/fidget with.

Mimic Adult Standards

Basic rules for dress Girls Guys Skirts, dresses or slacks. No jeans. Appropriate length dress/skirt Professional cut/ material Pressed/ironed Closed toe shoes No jeans, shorts, or cargo pants. Pressed/ironed Nice shoes (no holey sneakers) Tucked in shirt Non distracting tie (if worn) Professional does not have to be all black.

What not to wear…. (duh) He thinks he tried... This isn’t Homecoming. Too casual… (Same goes for hoodies in WA)

Less obvious what not to wear - Ladies edition Sun dresses and other ‘summer styles’ are cute, but not professional. If you have to curl your fingertips, it’s too short. ‘Bodycon’ skirts are not professional. Their fabric causes them to ride up, making them inappropriate for school, and they are too tight to be professional.

Less obvious what to wear/not to wear - Guys edition Similar to girls’ summer dresses, although fashionable, this is not professional. Don’t look sloppy. Tuck in your shirt. Dark jeans are still jeans.

Other options Guys Girls Fuller skirts are more age appropriate You do not have to wear a jacket or a tie. A sweater or sweater vest is considered professional. You do not have to wear a skirt/dress.

And remember.. Don’t make us dizzy with your patterns! This is an outfit, not a costume.
