What can students do on the Wizard What can students do on the Wizard? Search careers by cluster or career name to find labor market data about that career Complete Skills assessment to find their career cluster Complete Career Interest &Work Values assessment to find careers matching their interests and values (including growth of career in VA) Determine their lifestyle needs to critically think about the amount of money they’ll need to make in a career

What can students do on the Wizard? Plan their academic courses Search every college in the country Choose a major and program that fits their interest area Research college costs Apply for scholarships, apply to community college, research financial aid …and much more

Career Refinement/ Preparation Tools

Currently…. Every student in Virginia has a Wizard account beginning in 6th grade. The counselor is responsible for activating this account. There are 1.2 million active student accounts throughout Virginia. Account activation is easy and painless! Counselors can activate an entire grade in less than 30 seconds. They can also create a custom password for working with students in groups.

Beginning in September 2018, Beginning in September 2018, *every Virginia student enrolling in kindergarten will receive a Wizard account automatically.

The counselor can then: Activate the student accounts Create a custom password that is easy for them (and students) to remember Work with every student’s Wizard data (assessments, career goals, and portfolio) Run a report showing the gaps for every student by grade level—which students still need to take an assessment, choose a career cluster, or create a portfolio

Beginning in September, Kindergarten-5th grade students will be able to: Use the Wizard in their new profile page section, showing only what elementary counselors/administrators want this level to have access to Create an Academic and Career Plan Portfolio that will follow the student throughout elementary school Complete assessments

Student information will be automatically pulled in to the Wizard once they have completed their search or assessments.

The “My Academic and Career Plan Portfolio” will cover areas required in Virginia profile of a graduate for the K-5 level. Information entered into this ACPP will follow the student throughout elementary school, and can be printed in a pdf document for the student’s record.

Each portfolio section will contain information pertaining to the 4 sections of the VA Profile of a Graduate. Students can upload documents, complete forms, and critically think through these areas designed especially for the K5 level. This information will be accessible by the student in their profile section, and by the counselor in their Admin section. *It will also follow the student to middle school, automatically becoming part of the portfolio section of the student’s Wizard account.

6th-8th grade students will be able to: Use the Wizard in their new profile page section, showing only what middle school counselors/administrators want this level to have access to Create a Draft Course Plan to chart out their academic courses (becomes part of their Academic Career Plan) Complete assessments Refine or complete their Career Portfolio (begun in elementary school)

The “My Career Portfolio” will cover areas required in Virginia profile of a graduate for the 6-8th grade level. Information will be automatically pulled in from student’s elementary Academic and Career Plan Portfolio.

9th-12th grade students will be able to: Use the Wizard in their new profile page section, showing only what high school counselors/administrators want this level to have access to Create a Draft Course Plan to chart out their academic courses (becomes part of their Academic Career Plan) Complete assessments Refine or complete their Career Portfolio (begun in elementary school) Search colleges, programs&majors Do test preparation and research financial aid Research careers and do intensive career exploration

If the student has an Academic and Career Plan, it will become part of the My Career Portfolio (as a separate section). Students can print or download both the ACP and the Career Portfolio before they graduate.
