CARBON MONOXIDE AWARENESS More than 400 people die each year in the U.S. from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning CO is invisible, odorless, and colorless CO is caused by fuels that burn like wood or charcoal, or make heat or energy using carbon-based fuels like natural gas, propane, oil, gasoline or diesel engines Ensure proper installation, operation and maintenance of fuel-burning appliances in the home Have working CO alarms in the home located on each level and outside bedrooms Plug-in types should have a battery back-up if power is lost If a CO detector sounds, get outside immediately and call 911 **Contact the Fire Prevention Office at 747-4174/4442 for further info or questions** One Grand Forks Air Force Base… Defending Freedom!
