HCS Participated in the Alabama College Application Campaign Oct HCS Participated in the Alabama College Application Campaign Oct. 31-Nov. 4 The Alabama College Application Campaign is a national & statewide initiative to encourage students to apply to college The campaign is a part of ALSDE Plan 2020 The goal is for 100% of HCS seniors to submit at least one college application

Students Received Assistance from Counselors and Local College Recruiters During ALCAC The following types of activities were conducted throughout the District: Counselors visited classrooms to prepare students Counselors visited classrooms to help students apply Mini college/military fairs were conducted College Admissions Representatives visited throughout the week to provide information and assist students with applications

Lee/New Century High Grissom High Huntsville High Columbia High Jemison High

HCS Seniors Were Encouraged and Supported in Submitting at Least One Application for College Percentage of seniors who have applied to at least one college: Columbia – 89 Grissom – 90 Huntsville - 91 Jemison – 85 Lee – 85 New Century – 100 Several students have committed to alternate plans such as military, internships, religious missions or entering the workforce

HCS Students Have Chosen a Variety of Paths to Further Their Education 4 year public colleges - AAMU, AU, UA, UAH, MSU, TSU 4 year private colleges - Spring Hill, Stillman, Samford, Birmingham-Southern, Tuskegee 4 year selective colleges - Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Vanderbilt, U Penn 2 Year Colleges - Calhoun, Drake State, Wallace State, Marion Military Institute Career/Technical Schools - Salon Professional Academy, Ross Medical, Virginia College

HCS is Participating in The Cash for College Campaign The Cash for College Campaign is a statewide initiative in conjunction with the Alabama College Application Campaign The goals are to increase the awareness of funding provided by the U.S. Department of Education to help further their education and increase student submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

HCS Recently Hosted Financial Aid Help Sessions at Each High School Day and evening sessions at each high school during the week of Dec 5-9 Local college financial aid officers and North Alabama Center for Educational Excellence (NACEE) representatives provided additional support Parents were able to sign up for time slots in advance or walk in to receive assistance Students were also able to start the process by creating their FSA ID and learning more about the process

FAFSA Completion Data is Updated Periodically on the Alabama Possible Dashboard Data is provided by www.AlabamaPossible.org Data is presented as a percentage of completed financial aid applications per school Completion percentage for each school as of November 18: - Columbia 11% - Grissom 21% - Huntsville 21% - Jemison 19% - Lee 5% - New Century 35% FAFSA completion is ongoing and counselors will continue to provide support
