Writing an Introduction Building an Opinion Essay Writing an Introduction

The introduction of an opinion essay has 3 sentences. Sentence 1: Background Sentence 2: Thesis (Opinion) Sentence 3: Thesis statement (outline)

Example Question: Emiratis should pay less than foreign visitors to enter tourist places. Do you agree or disagree? Background Entry fees in tourist places are getting very high. Thesis statement [opinion(s)] Some people think that Emirati citizens should pay less than foreign visitors to enter those places. Thesis statement [outline] In this essay, I will give two reasons why I disagree with this statement.

Question: Women should be allowed to join the army Question: Women should be allowed to join the army. Do you agree or disagree? Background: In most countries, only men are allowed to have a career in the army. Opinion: However, many people think that there are some army duties that women could do. Thesis statement: I agree that there are certain jobs in the army which women could do very well.

However, others disagree with this idea. Another way of writing an introduction is paraphrasing the first part of the prompt and answering the question. Question: Women should be allowed to join the army. Do you agree or disagree? Background: Some people think that women should be allowed to join the army. Opinion: However, others disagree with this idea. Thesis statement: I also think this is a bad idea and in this essay, I will give three reasons to support my opinion.
