Biomes and Adaptations Project Bundle 9: Energy & Ecology

OBJECTIVE We will understand why certain plant and animal adaptations are successful. I will create a poster that explains why plant and animal adaptations are successful in 5 specific biomes.

Background Notes An adaptation is an inherited feature of an organism that enables it to survive and reproduce in its habitat. Adaptations are the end result of evolutionary changes that a species has gone through over time.

Background Notes Adaptations may be: Behavorial Physiological (functions) Structural (morphological or anatomical)

RESEARCH Material http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/world_biomes.htm Go to the website above and read about what a biome is. At the top of the website you can click on the various biomes to find out more information.

ASSIGNMENT http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/world_biomes.htm Use the links to research the following biomes: Tiaga, Tundra, Desert, Rainforest, Deciduous Forest Create a POSTER to explain the adaptations of animals & plants for each Biome and explain why these adaptations are successful.

ASSIGNMENT This assignment will be counted as a TEST GRADE! http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/world_biomes.htm This assignment will be counted as a TEST GRADE! The completed POSTER is due on March 29th. NO EXCEPTIONS! Early birds will receive a 5 point bonus! BONUS: If you add OPEN OCEAN to your list of Biomes to research and include in your poster, you will receive 10 points extra.

Poster rubric Title (5-pts) Biome labels (5 at 2-pts each) Biome descriptions (5 at 3-pts each) Plant Adaptations with illustrations/pictures (for each of 5 biomes at 3-pts each) Animal Adaptations with illustrations/pictures (for each of 5 biomes at 3-pts each) Success of Adaptations Explanations (for each of 5 biomes at 5-pts each) Colorful (5-pts) Neat and Organized (10-pts) Turned in EARLY; before May 11th Deadline. (5 Bonus Pts) Open Ocean Biome included (10 Bonus Pts)
