Interpreting Graphs and data
Why are graphs useful?
Remember in grade 7….. 1) A question is asked. How did you collect data? 1) A question is asked. What kind of ice cream does everyone like in our class? A survey is made.
Then a Bar graph was made.
A pie chart could have been made.
Or a picto gram
And finally a scattered plot
Let me ask you some questions How many people like vanilla? Which flavor is preferred the most? Which flavor is prefferd the least?
Vocabulary Variation: How is the graph changing. Is it increasing Is it decreasing
Vocabulary Relation: A relationship between 2 things Example: Distance vs time Cost vs time
Vocabulary Maximum: The highest point on the graph
Vocabulary Minimum: Lowest point on the graph
Vocabulary Axis’s: Y axis X axis
1.What is the line graph about? 2. What is the busiest time of day at the store? 3. At what time does business start to slow down? 4. How many people are in the store when it opens? 5. About how many people are in the store at 2:30 pm? 6. What was the greatest number of people in the store? 7. What was the least number of people in the store?

Lets graph motion! Time(x) Distance(y) 1 2 3 4 5 6
Constricting a table of values from a graph
Rule to table of values David's salary is calculated using the rule s=9n+12, where s represents the salary and n the number of hours worked. Construct a table of values: Number of weeks (n) Salary (y)
