Third Grade Field Trip to Harris Teeter

Location and Time… On Wednesday, April 6: Snyder, Garrett, Tea, and Sorensen On Thursday, April 7: Casten, Davis, and Mannino Buses will leave NLE at 9:15 a.m. You may follow the buses or meet us at Harris Teeter. We will leave the store at 11:00. Plan to be at the buses at 10:55 a.m. The address is: 20070 Ashbrook Commons Plaza Suite 151 We are asking that students bring a bagged lunch and wear their class T-shirts. Students will not be allowed to buy food at the store.

The Store… Once you arrive, please locate your child’s teacher and get the list of kids that you will be chaperoning. We will be going on a tour of the store to learn more about health and nutrition behind the scenes at Harris Teeter. Here’s a list of Chaperone Dos: Supervise students at all times during our visit. This includes bathroom breaks. Assist students with completing the MyPlate picture worksheet. Make sure you have the cell phone number of your child’s teacher. Be mindful of the time.

The Project… Our OTTW project focuses on health and nutrition. In this project, students will be tasked to create a healthy dinner for a family of four on a budget. Each team will receive a MyPlate picture. The team will have to go around the store and select foods that will create a healthy dinner based on their budget. For each section (food group) of the MyPlate picture, students should select/write at least 4 options and include the unit price for each option. For example, students should select 4 different grains (include the name brand and price per ?) that they might want to include in their meal. When the students return to school, they will have the opportunity to create their dinner using the options they selected and calculate the final cost.
