Anti-Counterfeiting Regional Reports Actions: SIA in EU: Seizure of more than half a million counterfeit ICs. Importance of filing trademarks with Customs. SIA in CT: Positive responses from customs authorities. Possible training sessions by other regions. SIA in US: Improved Authorized Supply Database; Inter-agency anti-counterfeiting WG; and Senate legislation SIA in Japan: Recent figures on import suspensions and seizures. SIA in China & Korea: No update Actions: WSC will provide GAMS with additional and updated information to facilitate GAMS action on dealing with semiconductor counterfeiting in preparation for a report to be given at the 2011 GAMS. WSC will coordinate with GAMS and their customs authorities in preparation for the 2011 GAMS meeting on anti-counterfeiting, including customs and patent officials’ attendance. The associations should encourage their companies to consider recordation in all regions and to take the necessary follow-up steps (the five points) in preparation for the 2011 GAMS and those steps suggested by the GAMS. Non-Practicing Entities Intensive discussion at IP TF Stressed importance of compliance with antitrust laws Difficulty in reaching consensus on NPE definition Deep divisions among TF members on next steps Interested associations will report the results of their studies to the next IP TF meeting At that meeting, IP TF will discuss and decide any future steps. IPTF will share its discussion on this subject with JSTC and seek a guidance for it to report to the WSC in May, 2011. Actions: JSTC member associations will review the preliminary chart on NPEs and provide comments back to SIA in Korea no later than November 15, 2010 to ensure constructive input from all regions.  SIA in Korea will circulate revised chart with comments to other Associations by December 1, 2010. Those JSTC member associations who have an interest in further study of NPEs will continue discussions of specific questions appropriate for study. Those JSTC member associations who have an interest in further study of NPEs to consider SIA in Korea’s  suggestion of engagement of an outside research organization.
