Bringing In The Sheaves Psalm 126:6

Psalm 126:1-6 1 When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. 2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. 3 The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. 4 Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south. 5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

It is believed that these Psalms were sung by the Israelites on their Way up to Jerusalem to worship. This Psalm relates to the exiles in Babylon returning to the their homeland. Jeremiah had predicted that Israel would spend 70 years in captivity. At that point God intervened through His providence and guided Cyrus, king of Persia after he defeated the Babylonians, to release the Israelites. (2 Chron. 36:21-23)

1.  When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. 2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. 3 The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.

In verses 1-3, the writer begins with the statement, “When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, we were like those who Dream.” They were so happy! This describes the unspeakable joy of those who were Set free from their captivity to return to their land and recognizing that this deliverance was from the Lord. They realized the joy they now had was from the Lord!

The Lord always keeps His promises to those who choose to serve Him and this was no exception. In Nehemiah 8:10 we read that “the joy of the Lord is your Strength.” Just as that was true for the Israelites it can be true for us. When we are faced with trials, stress or any of the problems Satan brings Upon us to attempt to hold us in captivity we can utilize the joy of the Lord To give us strength to overcome them. Remember that Paul wrote that the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace. (Gal. 3:22) Where is your strength? For the Christian. Phil. 4:13

Isaiah 41:10 - Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Hebrews 10:35 - Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.   John 14:14 - If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do [it]. Psalms 121:1- I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord.

Psalms 54:4 - Behold, God [is] mine helper: the Lord [is] with them that uphold my soul. Psalms 37:5 - Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring [it] to pass. 2 Chronicles 14:11 - And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, [it is] nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou [art] our God; let not man prevail against thee. Psalms 34:17 - [The righteous] cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

#1 Always remember that All the successes we have In life are from the Lord…and that He will keep His Promises. a) Joseph….You did it to hurt me but God did it to help His people. b) God kept His promise to Joseph…and He became the great leader in Egypt.

Philippians 4:19 - But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. 2 Peter 1:4 - Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Corinthians 1:20 - For all the promises of God in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Titus 1:2 - In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; 2 Corinthians 7:1 - Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

# 2 Then the writer said, “Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them” The Lord has done great things for us. And we are glad. V. 2-3 1. The Lord has done great things for them. 2. The Lord has done great things for us.

Count your many blessings. It is the Lord that hath done it. We should be People who are rejoicing. Phil.4:4. We are in the Kingdom of God, placed their by the Lord. Col. 1:13…Acts 2:47. Why would we not be filled With joy and be singing praises to God as well! I truly believe that those around us should see Christ Living in us. Let us be people who are constantly praising God for all His goodness towards us. James 1:17

Point # 3 In verse 4, the psalmist said “Bring back our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the South”. This could be translated “restore our fortunes.” Adam Clark said of this passage: This is either a recital of the prayer they had used before Their deliverance; or it is a prayer for those who still remained In the provinces beyond the Euphrates. The Jewish captives did not all return at once, they came back at different times, and under different leaders: Ezra, Nehemiah Zerubbabel..etc.

Psalms 51:12 - Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me [with thy] free spirit. Psalms 23:3 - He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Ruth 4:15 - And he shall be unto thee a restorer of [thy] life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him. Acts 3:19 - Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Point # 4 In the last 2 verses, we have a great picture of the Israelites Having returned to their land and planting or sowing the seed In tears, but waiting for the promise of God to bring in the Harvest so they might rejoice while bringing in the sheaves. Waiting:

Psalms 27:14 - Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint. Psalms 130:5 - I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. Habakkuk 2:3 - For the vision [is] yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry

Galatians 2:20 - I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Psalms 25:5-9 - Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou [art] the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.   1 John 3:2 - Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. Titus 2:13 - Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Psalms 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.   Psalms 37:9 - For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. Psalms 62:5 - My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation [is] from him. Job 14:14 - If a man die, shall he live [again]? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. Psalms 69:6 - Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.

One writer observed: The psalm, speaking first to its own times, Speaks still. “ Yes, and what does it say to us: 1. God’s former blessings are a pledge of others yet to come. Count your many blessings…name them one by one 2.. Diligent work, the good seed which is the Word of God, and tearful earnestness on the part of the sower are the certain pledges of a bountiful Harvest, when “We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the Sheaves.”

When Christians weep for the lost and sow the precious seed, the Word Of God, they will rejoice over the converts the Word produces. It was from This passage that Knowles Shaw wrote his great hymn, “Bringing in the Sheaves”.

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness, Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve; Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves. Refrain: Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves; Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows, Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze; By and by the harvest, and the labor ended, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves. Refrain: Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves; Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master, Though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves; When our weeping’s over, He will bid us welcome, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves. Refrain: Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves; Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Our Grandson on Friday night at a concert in which He participated . He read this prayer: God, you made the whole world, and You still wanted Me, so from the dust of the earth you made me. You Made Bill, Betsy, Pam, and Jennifer and all my friends. You gave me everything I have: Strong legs; good eyes; fishing poles; creek banks; tadpoles and turtles. You even made girls. Some of the time, I like ‘em. You’ve given me a moma and daddy , my sisters and my puppy You’re great, God! I’m sorry I forget to thank you and do things for you. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have anything or even be anything. I guess I’d still be dust.

And then he sung: Dear God, help me not to ever forget You, like a lot of grown folks do—even when I get older. God is there anything I can do for you? Is there anything I can do for you?

Is there anything I can do for You? For all the things You’ve done for me, Is there anything I can do? I’m willing to be used, dear Lord, Whatever the price may be So if there’s anything I can do for You, Just make it known to me.

Is there any thing I can be for you? For all the things You’ve been to me, I’m willing to be used, dear Lord, Whatever the price may be, So if there’s anything I can be for you, Just make it known to me.

Is there anywhere I can go for You? For the places You have been for me, Is there anything I can do for you, Is there anything I can do? For all the things You’ve done for me, Is there anything I can do. Is there anything, Lord, I can do?

The Bible tells us that a little child shall lead them. Is there anything I can do for You? Is there anything I can be for You? Is there anywhere I can go for You?

Let us never forget: There’s crickets and tadpoles, turtles and frogs Down by the creek bank By the old holler log. There’s spiders and fireflies, earthworms that crawl Down by the creek bank by the old holler log.

God made the animals Both great and small But I guess my favorite Ones of them all. Are crickets and tadpoles, turtles and frogs Down by the creek bank by the old holler log.

Senses I feel with my fingers, Touch with my hands, I hold my baby sister And touch her tender skin. I see with my eyes All the tiny butterflies, And I listen with my ears, Oh the funny sounds I hear!

I smell with my nose The pretty yellow rose, And I taste with my tongue, And tasting is such fun! But I love with my heart; That’s the most important part.

Senses, aren’t we lucky to have senses! Senses, so very lucky to have senses! Senses, all those precious little senses! Senses, all those pleasures we enjoy!

JUST BEING ME … If I were a bird I could fly High as the stars in the sky But a bird I’ll never be. So I’m happy , you see Just being me, being me. Being me, Being free, Being all I can be I can pass every tests ‘Cause I’ll give it my best

If I were a bell I could chime, “Ring-ding-a-ling”all the time But a bell I’ll never be, So I’m happy, you see, Just being me, being me.

Being me, being free, Being all I can be. I can pass every test ‘Cause I’ll give it my best Just being me, being me. I can always be myself Better than anybody else Just being me. Being me.!
