Use this reasoning: “What is the first day of the week (on a calendar)? – Sunday “What day was the Sabbath day?” – The seventh day, Saturday Sabbath day was a part of the law of Moses – now we are under the new law. “What makes the first day of the week so significant – why not partake on a Tuesday or Friday, etc” – The fact that Christ rose from the dead makes it a significant day for Christians. e. Answer the second question from OBS

3:2 – I Corinthians 16:1-2 Purpose: Show that, as Christians, we should give as we have been prospered to further the work of the Church. Methodology: a. “Which day of the week that Paul mention here to make a contribution?” – 1st Day b. “ What do you think the purpose for them giving of their means was?” Why should we follow their example today?

3:2 – I Corinthians 16:1-2(See Ladder) c. How much should we give? Does this passage mention tithing? – No, that again was a part of the old law given to the Jews; we are to give as we have been prospered. d. Personal Application: How will you know how to correctly handle the word of the truth? – through continued study. Answer the question on the OBS What do we find in this passage that we can add to the next step on the ladder? Bible study

3:6 – Philippians 1:9 – (See Ladder) Purpose: Show that, for our love to abound, we must grow spiritually. Methodology: What two ways did Paul desire for their love to abound? – Knowledge, understanding Answer the question from OBS Add to ladder Discuss analogy between physical “babies and spiritual “babies” Ask class to explain physical babies vs spiritual babies

3:8 – Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16 (See Ladder) Purpose: Show that one of the things we do in our worship in song is to speak to one another’, and that the music comes from the heart. Methodology: Answer the question from the OBS Colossians 3:16 Purpose: Show that we also teach and admonish (counsel, encourage) each other when we sing praises to God

3:8 – Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16 (See Ladder) Methodology: Answer Last two questions on OBS Add to ladder

9: Study And Complete Chart Purpose: Show that the musical instrument does nothing to accomplish what God desires when we sing. Methodology: Here we have a chart whjich will help us to understand how we are to worship God in song. We’ve Already found that we are to speak, teach and admonish when we sing – all that remains is to find out wether the voice alone or voice plus the musical instrument can acceptably accomplish that. Can my voice speak? Yes, it can. But can a mechanical instrument such as a piano or organ speak? No, it cannot. Can my voice teach…. Etc, etc Answer last question on the OBS

3:9 Chart Continued Other questions in case of trouble. Why use something if it is not necessary ? Why do people use instruments - to make the music sound more pleasing to God’s ear or to man’s ear? If we find no New Testament example of people using instruments, then what example or command do we have to use them? Finally, do not belabor the issue to the point of argument; instead, move on to the next question.

9: Study and Complete Chart Voice Mechanical Instruments of Music Speak Can Teach Admonish Cannot

Methodology: What if an angel come to you preaching something different than what you have read in the Bible? Who should you follow? Answer the questions on the OBS

3:12 – Romans 12:1-2 (See Ladder) Purpose: Show the commitment that comes along with being saved by God’s grace. Methodology: Discuss what it means to be a ‘living sacrifice.
