A Process for Planning an ACE Course Synopsis of this presentation This presentation explains a process which can be followed to plan an ACE course. This presentation suggests that this process be undertaken prior to writing the ACE Grant Application document. Ideally, the Coordinator of ACE as well as the Tutor and other relevant contributors within your organisation, should negotiate collectively. © Community Centres SA 2016

A Process for Planning an ACE Course Initial Questions to Consider What are the learning needs in my community? Which cohort of learners is being targeted for the course? What Foundation Skills is the course designed to develop within the learners? In which context will the course be delivered – Foundation Skills embedded into vocational content? © Community Centres SA 2016

A Process for Planning an ACE Course What are the learning needs in my community? Consider the issues that are prominent in the local community. For example: High unemployment Significant CALD population Youth who have left school early New employment opportunities coming into the area Etc. © Community Centres SA 2016

A Process for Planning an ACE Course What Foundation Skills is the course designed to develop within the learners? LEARNING NUMERACY READING WRITING ORAL COMMUNICATION © Community Centres SA 2016

A Process for Planning an ACE Course In which context will the course be delivered – Foundation Skills embedded into vocational content? The Core Skill of READING can be taught in a cooking context (reading recipes) and in a computer context (reading instructions on-line or from a learning manual) Similarly, for example, the Employability Skills of TEAMWORK and PLANNING AND ORGANISING could be taught and practised in either of the named vocational contexts of learning. © Community Centres SA 2016

A Process for Planning an ACE Course Select the Appropriate Unit of Competency Having decided upon the learner cohort, their identified needs and the Foundation Skills to be embedded into the ACE course, an appropriate unit of competency from the Foundation Skills Training Package must be selected. © Community Centres SA 2016

A Process for Planning an ACE Course The Next Steps It is now time to consider issues including, but not limited to: Barriers to learning the group may have Learning outcomes for the ACE course How development of foundation Skills will be assessed and learner progress recorded The sequential development of the ACE course content The resources etc. to be utilised in the delivery of the course How to document the ACE course Etc. © Community Centres SA 2016
