Why Are Analyzers Good Investments? Getting the Most Out of Capital Deployed Capital Deployed Control systems Optimization software Processing equipment Capital Deployed Grants Access to Business Strategies All made possible with reliable on-line/process measurements In terms of value, process analyzers can help capture millions in profit! PGC5009 Fast Process GC Product Introduction Analytical Technique: Process Gas Chromatography Measurement: Up to C34 separation and quantification Key Data: Calculation of the product boiling point curve for process control and key component concentrations such as benzene and butane for RVP The Result: Speed of analysis and measurement precision enable tight and effective process control Standards: Correlates to ASTM D3710, D2887 and D86 Target Market: Oil Refining Target Processes: Distillation, Conversion, Treating and Blending November 10, 2018

PGC5009 Fast Process GC The Value Proposition The Refinery Challenge A relatively small shift in the cut point for any refinery product can cost refiners millions in profits. In the absence of fast, accurate and reproducible boiling point data, refinery product yields are not optimized and more importantly, significant profits are lost. The ABB Solution With a patented resistively heated column design and rapid cooling system, the PGC5009 provides superior chromatography for simulated distillation in less than 5 minutes. The results are proven: accurate and reproducible retention times and weight percentage measurements required for boiling point curve calculation enable optimized refinery process control and minimize lost profits. The Elevator Message A three week payback via tight refinery product cut point control and catalyst life extension and millions captured annually in profits. November 10, 2018

The Refinery Value Chain and the PGC5009 PGC5009 Fast Process GC The Refinery Value Chain and the PGC5009 PGC5009 Applications Refinery Feeds Products Distillation Processes Conversion Processes Treating and Blending The PGC5009’s high speed of analysis and measurement precision enable tight and effective process control for Increasing Product Quality Minimizing Undesirable Components in Feeds Optimizing Production November 10, 2018

Where’s the Money? Increasing Product Quality PGC5009 Fast Process GC Where’s the Money? Increasing Product Quality Effectively control side stream properties Reduce variability in side stream product specifications to reduce giveaway in the conversion unit Refinery Feeds Products Distillation Processes Conversion Processes Treating and Blending CASE STUDY 2 Control boiling range of blend components (FCC, Coker Naphtha) Optimize recipe control, to reduce blend cost and/or sell excess high value components Optimize recipe control, to reduce blend cost and/or sell excess high value components November 10, 2018

Where’s the Money? Minimizing Undesirable Components PGC5009 Fast Process GC Where’s the Money? Minimizing Undesirable Components Minimize catalyst poisoning metals (Ni, Cr, V) going to conversion feed extending product run or banking catalyst Refinery Feeds Products Distillation Processes Conversion Processes Treating and Blending Manage Hydro-treater catalyst life to extend run and/or capture market opportunity Exclude Benzene precursors (cyclohexane) for regulatory control preventing fines November 10, 2018

Where’s the Money? Minimizing Undesirable Components PGC5009 Fast Process GC Where’s the Money? Minimizing Undesirable Components Selectively treat streams to maximize unit utilization Refinery Feeds Products Distillation Processes Conversion Processes Treating and Blending CASE STUDY 1 Tight cut point control optimizes ULSD output versus low value heating oil output November 10, 2018

PGC5009 Fast Process GC Key Product Features Fast Thermal Response for Short Analysis Cycle Times 4 to 5 times faster than ASTM D86 analyzers allowing for process control Less slop generation during product specification changes Faster return to optimized control parameters after crude slate/feed changes Faster response to unit upsets reestablishment of control High Analyzer Precision Enables Tight Process Control No need for peak alignment to compensate for design weaknesses and measurement variability Reduces the ‘giveaway’ in product blends and assures high blend product quality Enables control strategies to extend unit run-length and/or minimize capital investment High Information Content Rich diagnostics in boiling point curves to process upsets and feed or blend component changes Multiple measurement points and excellent reproducibility to manage several product specs simultaneously Additional component concentration values such as butane for RVP calculation and benzene for environmental specification compliance associated with emissions T50, FBP, IBP, compound specific control variables can be used in the control system software November 10, 2018

Key Product Attributes PGC5009 Fast Process GC Key Product Attributes Patented Resistively Heated Column By using the stainless steel column’s own material resistivity property and an electric potential applied directly to the column, the column effectively becomes a heater enabling a fast heat up time. Rapid Column Cooling System After column heat up, a Vortex cooler device flows 15 SCFM of cold air over the column rapidly cooling it back to the starting temperature. Coupled with the heated column, analysis cycle times of 4-5 minutes for simulated distillation are achieved. Highly Precise Temperature and Pressure Control Digital column temperature and carrier pressure control enable 0.5 oC IBP and 1.0 oC FBP repeatability/reproducibility thereby providing superior process control and no need for peak alignment to compensate for design weaknesses and measurement variability. Financial Case Study 1 – Savings of 1.6 MUSD Annually PGC5009 Fast Process GC Financial Case Study 1 – Savings of 1.6 MUSD Annually Refinery processes 100,000 crude barrels per day Approximately 30% output diesel or 11 million barrels per year Using the PGC5009 Fast GC ULSD Product Uplift Increase by 1% (and decrease yield of lower value heating oil products) - Additional 110,000 barrels every year of product uplift from No.2 heating oil to ULSD Assuming $0.13/gallon ULSD = $5.46/barrel equates to product uplift of 500 kUSD per year Catalyst Life Extension Removal of dibenzothiophene and other sulfurs iincreases catalyst life by 3 months Reducing TA frequency by 20% saves approximately 1.1 MUSD per year for a 30 KBD diesel hydrotreater November 10, 2018

Financial Case Study 2 – Gasoline PGC5009 Fast Process GC Financial Case Study 2 – Gasoline Refinery Gasoline Blend Volume of 4,200,000 Gallons per Day Current blend comprised of 40% FCC Naphtha (HFCCN), 25% Straight Run Naphtha (HSRN), 15% Alkylate, 18% Reformate and 2% Butane The PGC5009 is used to control the boiling range of these gasoline blending components such that the more expensive components, Alkylate and Reformate, are reduced and the less expensive components, FCC Naphtha (HFCCN) and Straight Run Naphtha (HSRN) are increased thereby reducing the overall manufacturing cost of the gasoline blend By reducing the Alkylate and Reformate in the blend by 0.5% and 0.3%, respectively, and increasing the FCC Naphtha and Straight Run Naphtha by 0.25% and 0.10%, respectively, the overall manufacturing cost of the gasoline blend is reduced from $1.3475 per gallon to $1.3467 per gallon The profit captured in this strategy amounts to $3,405 per day meaning the PGC5009 pays for itself in 28 days; annualized profit $1,242,910.
