The National Maths and Physics SCITT Severe shortage of Maths and Physics teachers New Department of Education Initiative Subject Specialist School Centred Initial Teacher Training Programme Wycombe High School designated as lead school in September 2017

National Maths and Physics SCITT Programme takes the best of what is currently available: Subject Knowledge provision of a University based course School Centred Experience like a SCITT/School direct Programme Unique collaboration between the State and Independent sectors Links to National Subject Associations

National Maths and Physics SCITT The SCITT will only offer training in Maths or Physics so can ensure sufficient subject knowledge and pedagogy content Working with The Mathematical Association and The Institute of Physics to embed trainees into the profession Course is being developed in collaboration between the Hub Schools The Central Hub will also train RIS participants

National Maths and Physics SCITT We will begin training teachers in September 2018 in 3 areas Bolton High Wycombe South London

National Maths and Physics SCITT Course Outline 3 day residential in August 14.5 days Subject Knowledge and Pedagogy 14.5 day professional study Online PGCE course with Buckingham University Main placement School (approx. 27 weeks) Second placement school (6 weeks) Alternative provision (1 week) Primary School placement (3 days)

National Maths and Physics SCITT Trainees are supernumerary They will move through the teaching phases at a suitable pace for them but to meet QTS by June: Observation Paired teaching Whole lesson teaching In School Mentor Hub School Subject leader
